2023 PB 501a 4x4 short bed 7.2KW. PL=1658lbs.
I'm surely not the oldest here and surely not the most expert on the history of Ford trucks but I've had a number of F150s.

70s vintage XLT with a 390 auto. RCLB. Tough but a rust bucket.

83 XLT, Red and Maroon, full of chrome. Possibly the prettiest truck I'll ever own. I may have to just dig out an old pic, scan it and post it. 351 auto. RCSB with posi. If you kept good tires on it, it would get around well but it didn't want to stop. It stayed straight but kept going. Engine was toast around 250K.

90 XLT, bought new. RCLB, 4WD, 5spd mazda. 302, (5L) single port fuel injection. Rebuilt the hubs once. Two clutches. and 2 fuel pumps. gave it up around 300K after having to put special bearings on the rear axles. Last I knew, it was reserved as a farm truck, never to see the road again.

01 XLT / Lariat (don't ask me, thats what it said) Ordered. By then, I'd had knee problems and went back to auto trans. No regrets at all. .SCSB. 4WD with posi and electronic locking hubs. Disc brakes, with anti lock rears. 46L, multi port FI. Even with a smaller engine, It would run circles around the others but disappointingly, got the same mpg. 16, all around. Coils at around 80K and had to jimmy the rear door mechanisms but other than that, for a 180K ish, super dependable. Other than this one, my favorite truck. Sold it to a friend who loves it.

Now this 23 PB. Lariat. None of the others, are close to comparing. They just don't.

It whacks it. No denying that. My usual 25mpg (+-) goes to the upper teens, in 20F or less.
My 2015 2.7 fuel economy dropped in the winter too. My 2022 Powerboost still gets better mileage than that did in the winter.

My 5.0 has dropped 2-3mpg this winter.

I don't own one
But I have friends that do...and it's an awesome machine that is under sold by ford.. it's a freaking powerhouse
If they apply the tech to a superduty
Hold on...it's going to change that market.
Imo ford failed miserably to promote it's capability...I would have got one vice the last f150
Just like they dropped the ball on the tow monster excursion
I see you 'upgraded' senior! getting ready to mount my metal skid plate, aka cat protection, soon to my PB...

Some people calculate the ICE gas mileage versus PB and the fuel costs savings over time and conclude at $2K for the PB, the fuel cost payback is a long timeframe, they don't take into account the convenience of a built in 7.2K generator, Horsepower, the torque and acceleration of the PB. People are also scared of technology even if it several years old, making them shy away from the PB, also people love V8s.

I think it's the luck of the draw on the PB. 33,000 miles on my 2023 and I still love it.

I truly believe these people looking back are doing so with rose tinted glasses or perhaps even some nostalgia bias. 30+ year old trucks suck compared to modern versions. Shit suspension geometry, shit brakes, shit trans with pathetic ratios, shit drivability/steering, horrible NVH, horrible vehicle radio/speakers, and laughably poor power, especially with the transmissions and lack of gears etc etc etc.

About the only thing being referenced here that was 'better' was the improvement it was over the previous vehicle you had. As for those saying "if ford sold blah blah blah now...". Look, you can go buy one of those old shit boxes and overhaul it better than what it came out of at the factory for less than you bought your new truck for. The reason you didn't is because you know the truth -- we all do.

Just my 2 pennies worth :)

I don’t use mine as a mobile office, but the amazing ability for the PB to idle efficiently and effortlessly for hours or even days cannot be overstated. No other truck comes close. I brought a portable fridge/cooler along in the bed during a recent visit to Texas. I kept it plugged in and the truck in generator mode for most of the trip. Want a snack? Need a cold drink? Want to bring some groceries from home? It’s just so good and I don’t have to compromise a thing. I get as good or better gas mileage than the rest of truckdom and as much or more power for sure. My Achilles heel is the #1624 payload. Well, the frame and rear end are plenty strong and I will give the payload consideration when I happily add a rear stabilizer and airbags. It’s a great half ton truck. The best.

The only reason I don't buy a "shit box" is I don't have time to restore it.

You can keep telling yourself newer is always better too.

Some people want a truck, not a SUV that they can still feel manly driving.

That article seems to be referencing 21-23 models. I read that Ford made some revisions to the 24+ models, namely removing the BISG and some software tuning, to smooth things out more. I haven't driven any of the earlier PB models for comparison but my 2024 is very smooth the majority of the time. The few times it hasn't been have been mostly 10R80-related.
I have a ‘21. My issues have been electrical gremlins that are not necessarily PB related.

I've driven Ford trucks since 1990, but this is my very first F150. I had several Rangers early on and for the last 25 years at least I've only had F250s.

So far I'm liking this truck as much as any I've had, but then I just ticked over 2000 miles so I need a bit more time to really know how good it really is.

There was a $1900 charge to get a PB, and a $1900 discount to get a PB, so by itself the PB was a no cost option as long as you wanted everything else you are forced to get to get a PB. At least on my 25.

Sometimes, it’s not always about top performance. The charm of going back in time with a much simpler machine can be its own reward. Turn heads and start conversations everywhere like no new truck could ever hope to do. Stand out in a crowd of cookie cutter $70,000 luxury limo trucks. A machine that can easily be repaired at home and still get the job done.

While it certainly could be, it doesn't have to be ones only vehicle.

This. I can't believe it took 9 pages to point that Ford has given a $1,900 discount on Powerboosts for the past two years. My PB cost the exact same as if I would have gotten an 3.5L EB. No difference. All this talk about a $2k expense that hasn't existed in two years.
