The PB is by far the best choice for all other versions of the F-150.
yeah... naah... Despite the salesman at the time pushing me hard to have one of those little 6 cylinder thingy's I stuck with my Coyote both times I bought a lariat.... no dramas for many years now...

I know I'm not the fastest or the most fashionable but certainly reliable.... so's my F150..:)

After three plus years in my 2021 PB, I don't think I'd ever want another truck that isn't like the PB. If Ford doesn't make a PBv2 or SD-PB, I don't know if I'd ever stop driving this truck. Being a 2021, it has so many things that have since been deleted. The only things I wish this 302A had were memory seats and 4A and I may have to drive up to NW GA and pay @HammaMan a large fee to mod this truck with those when the 8yr/100k mile ESP expires. :)
I know what you mean.
Between Ford's decontenting and being hypnotized by HammaMan on occasions, I have gone into a "Save The 2022 Powerboost" for the apocalypse ? mode? Driving the Mach-E (HammaMan got in my brain) for the vast majority of daily mileage.

Or put another way, I have put far fewer miles on the mighty Powerboost in the 3rd year of ownership because I don't want to ever be without it.

I've NEVER done anything like that with my trucks. Quite the opposite. The trucks were my daily and the toys needed battery tenders in the barn. ?

Still, logic says additional Electrification is inevitable. There has to be a Version 2 of the Powerboost. Right? And the SD-PB?

Problem with that is I'm reaching retirement soon enough and these dang machines are getting too expensive for my upcoming fixed income status? ?

2023 PB 501a 4x4 short bed 7.2KW. PL=1658lbs.
Kind of a bottom line thing ...

1) I am not usually an early adopter and the timing of things were stacked against the PB from the start, because you had initial introduction, on the heels of the covid mess. Kind of a double whamy. I was able to wait for the 23MY and a lot of the early problems, never touched me.

2) The CR were blatantly unfair. Giving a false impression of PB specific un-reliability. Once that ball gets started, its hard to turn people's minds around.

But

1) If you want / need a reasonably large, pure sine wave generator, there just isn't a better choice, re noise level, efficiency, or cost, than the 7.2KW PPOB. With the added benefit of not having to lug it around, or keep it serviced.

And

2) If you use your truck as a mobile office, as I did for many years, its a no brainer, to have full time heat or aircon, plus AC access, for miniscule amounts of fuel use.

The 5.0 and 3.5 are both quality reliable powertrains. Neither are simple or uncomplicated by any stretch.

Too many uneducated owners and technicians were probably the biggest single reason why the powerboost got such a bad reputation. My local dealer only had one tech that even knew anything about the powerboost, so I decided to go 30 minutes away for my next warranty appointment where the service department showed me that they knew what they were talking about.

After seeing how many people get on Facebook with issues that tie directly back to a depleted 12v system, it is pretty easy to see that Ford didn't get the information down to the lowest level. I know that would not have prevented all of the issues with the PB, but it would have cut a large chunk of the complaints out right away........ if they had gone with a larger or different auxiliary setup.

I don’t think anyone hates it, I certainly don’t. It just doesn’t have the sex appeal and attention that a 5.0 or 6.2 gets because YouTubers are deep into the performance and modification realm. I haven’t seen much negative.

I get that. The RCSB is a unique niche segment. It’s V8 Americana and I love it.

The PB is by far the best choice for all other versions of the F-150.
To each their own. I'd still have gotten the 5.0 if I'd have gotten a different trim. My dad has a 5.0 crew cab and loves it.

I have no use, or desire, for the extra gadgets. I used to like tech stuff, but it's gotten ridiculous. I just want something reliable.

People always say that right up until the power suddenly drops for hours unexpectedly as happens out of the blue, or you need a plug where there isn't one. Then there's conveniences of taking coffee makers / toasters / microwaves to the oddest of places. Be it in the middle of nowhere or where people give you odd looks as you're making coffee or microwaving something in your truck.

I've met people that don't need all of the bells and whistles, but never on the internet, and of those who don't "need" them, they sure do use the hell out of them when they've got them.

Thank goodness the 5.0 models don’t come with that cylinder deactivation nonsense you hear causing trouble, or that idiotic 10 speed automatic. That transmission is just too fancy with all those modes and stuff. None of that Sync 4 goofiness for my trusty V8 Ford. You know that will fail soon as the warranty expires!

Yep, I dodged more than a few bullets with my wise choice of vehicle.

I don't know. Ben sort of strikes me as a Fembot Felcher. His dismissal of the PB means nothing.
I don't weigh any single report or person, as a definitive.
Its was just one of those, "on my last nerve" type things.

A good friend, is shopping for a truck to haul his camper, which would be a good match but his wife read the CR report. and has him gun shy.

I bet his wife suggested a Honda Ridgeline or a Maverick?

Little does she know, although well intentioned I'm sure. :)

No, she at least knows they need a full sized truck.

I've invited them over so they can see the deal first hand, late next week but who knows what they'll decide.

An F-250 King Ranch is not a PowerBoost…

Ahhhhh, but just a nice inverter away.
I swear I'd take a Powerboost drivetrain in an F250 chassis.

My 2001 F350 7.3 Diesel had 225 HP and 550ftlbs. So the Powerboost drivetrain with a serious cooling stack, along with a 10R140, since they won't give me a clutch.........

Of course a Godzilla Powerboost would be the cat's meow for what I need from a truck. I don't think I could talk myself out of one.
