People always say that right up until the power suddenly drops for hours unexpectedly as happens out of the blue, or you need a plug where there isn't one. Then there's conveniences of taking coffee makers / toasters / microwaves to the oddest of places. Be it in the middle of nowhere or where people give you odd looks as you're making coffee or microwaving something in your truck.

I've met people that don't need all of the bells and whistles, but never on the internet, and of those who don't "need" them, they sure do use the hell out of them when they've got them.
I have a generator already.

Thank goodness the 5.0 models don’t come with that cylinder deactivation nonsense you hear causing trouble, or that idiotic 10 speed automatic. That transmission is just too fancy with all those modes and stuff. None of that Sync 4 goofiness for my trusty V8 Ford. You know that will fail soon as the warranty expires!

Yep, I dodged more than a few bullets with my wise choice of vehicle.
I would absolutely adore if my truck didn't have any of that stuff. My 05 had more stupid crap than I needed.

Ahhhhh, but just a nice inverter away.
I swear I'd take a Powerboost drivetrain in an F250 chassis.

My 2001 F350 7.3 Diesel had 225 HP and 550ftlbs. So the Powerboost drivetrain with a serious cooling stack, along with a 10R140, since they won't give me a clutch.........

Of course a Godzilla Powerboost would be the cat's meow for what I need from a truck. I don't think I could talk myself out of one.
Stop talking dirty to me. ?

Edit: don't stop ?

I think you bought the wrong vehicle. You should immediately trade it in for your perfect match

I've said it before, if you could make a 92 F150 with the 300 and a 5 speed brand new today, I'd have paid a very pretty penny for it.

I'd buy a brand new straight-6 300 with a standard transmission, if Ford offered such a thing. Although I'd prefer current era tires/brakes/suspension, as well as current era interior text tiles, HVAC, and lighting technology. And I'll hope for more than a single speaker in the middle of the dash? ?

About 6 months and 5k miles and my '24 PB XLT is spectacular. No issues and it is an amazing change from the '12 EB I came up from. It is more an app wrapped around an engine and wheels than a truck, and it all works. It is an amazing amount of software and it integrates well. I'm an old IT guy and have written a lot of code over the years so have some standing to have an opinion on apps and UIs. As Ford brings software development in house instead of using suppliers apps I expect it all to integrate even better and the OTA updates to slick up too.

In all a great truck, and PB has been flawless. Commonly a 1/4 or more of my miles are electric. The transition between electric and gas is absolutely transparent. My only wish is that it had a bigger battery and ran further on electric.

Ford has done an elegant job on this hybrid, as they did on my wife's Fusion hybrid.
The bad CR rating does not at all resemble my experience. Actually it's only habit that keeps me from dropping my long time CR subscription. They are increasingly less relevant, and it ain't just cars.

As with anything there are a couple of nits to pick. I wasn't looking for a 4 door mini bed, but that's what Ford is building. Handling is a lot softer than the '12, and I don't think that was just the heavy sway bars I had on that truck. It rides almost more like a car than a truck.

User interface, the brake coach comes on shortly before the truck stops, and before the brake hold light and application. On several occasions catching the green of the coach out of the corner of my eye I have let off the brake thinking the hold had applied. I haven't nerfed anyone yet, but it's been close. I'd suggest activating those together, or lead with the brake hold.

Lane centering generally works well, but. The better it works, the lighter my touch on the wheel. The lighter my touch on the wheel, the more often it bitches at me to keep my hands on the wheel. That is irritating.

On the interstate I like that it will move towards the left of the lane when I'm passing a semi. I spend more time on 2 lane roads than interstates. I found I tend to stay to the right side of the lane, away from the center line. It would be great if lane centering would let me choose almost lane centering to keep a little to the right of center. Same as moving over for a semi, just moving the other way. Turn that algorithm right instead of left and add a button in the configuration to select it.

Adaptive cruise works well, the only real exception is that it slows excessively when a car is turning in front of me. It brakes excessively even after the turning vehicle has cleared the lane. I've learned to step on the gas when the turning car is clearing and the truck keeps slowing abruptly.

Odds and ends:
A cheap heads up display is both convenient and gives me a volt meter that Ford neglected to provide as an instrument option. No battery issues so far, and sometimes a week between uses.

At higher speed, 76-79 lane centering would over correct and oscillate. An OTA update fixed it. Just the way software is supposed to work.

The PPOB is great. It easily powered essential stuff in my house during an outage. I gave my old generator to my kid. I believe the truck has a prettier wave, it's a lot quieter and uses less gas too.

I'm pretty sure my 92 had more than 1 speaker.

My 92 was more comfortable sitting in the seat than my 24, but my 24 is getting better as I break it in. I don't care about lighting.

That old 6 banger was ok and I miss having a clutch. :) But after a dozen years with the 3.5 EB it's growing on me. It's only 6 in a row that won't go. More than 2 hp per cu in and lotsa torque steps right along, even in a heavy truck. Long ago we only dreamed of fuel injected and supercharged engines that weren't 1st gen hemis with GMC 671 blowers on top in dragsters. Stuff like computer run variable valve timing, spark advance, knock sensors and fuel mixture weren't even in our dreams. But I still admire a 700cfm center pivot 4 barrel Holly. The GM Quadrajet was a pretty neat carburetor too. They'd both put as much gas and air into an engine as we could get past the intake valves. Never the less I'm sort of liking this wonderful world of the future.

Everything was more comfortable 32 years ago because I was a lean and handsome young man ?

Well, I had a bought new 1990, 302 XLT F150, with that excellent Mazda 5 speed manual. Blue and silver. 4WD, RCLB. Wish I still had it, so I could sell it to you for a pretty penny.

But I like this current truck much better.

My first vehicle was an '88 XLT Lariat with the 300 and a 4spd w/ a granny 1st gear. It was a beat to hell work truck with almost 300k miles and could barely get out of its own way, lol. It still has a special place in my heart but I've been progressively happier with each F150 I've had since. Simplicity is nice but the amount of tech Ford is packing into even a base XL these days is crazy.

I just hope it all keeps working since I tend to keep my trucks for a long time :censored:

I would have bought my old truck back in a heartbeat over my new one if my old one was in the shape I bought in in 1998.

I wouldn't want that 302 though. The 300 was way more reliable.

I'm the same size as I was in 1998 when I bought my 92. Same size, probably better shape than I was then. I let myself go for a few years after playing football and wrestling in college. Topped out at about 360 in 2003.
