Ford does not care obviously. You're screaming into the void. That was the best way I could sum that up at that moment.

People act like their single acts or declarations mean something. Either make your buying habits a statement, or it's worthless.
People are commiserating about a change that they don't like. They liked the previous version better, and are discussing. That's it.

I guess some find that odd.

But what I find odder, is folks like you....that feel the need to chime in about something either you didn't have, or have but don't use, or don't care about the topic, you just want to have an opinion about other folks having an opinion.

If we are "screaming into the void", you are screaming at folks screaming into the void.

And now, you're screaming at me, screaming at you, screaming into the void.

This does not appear to be true. On ford's site at least it's been brought back to all models that had it. Seems like only a handful of recent trucks got the shaft.
@HammaMan From the website just now, the b-pillar is no longer an option. Only this new DIO.

My post apparently has been totally misread. Let me try again. I said I will buy a pretty crappy Ford as long as it comes with the keypad. Take away the keypad and I’m free to consider anyone’s truck. Freedom to shop and buy anything. I did NOT say I would leave ford over not having a keypad.

Yeah, the site is still taking you to 'build' a 2024 by default.
I can't see. Is this a battery powered stuck on? 225.00 is extremely expensive considering it may need programed by dealer. I'm not too worried about the cost as any dealer that wants me to pay 80k will throw it in.

I work for a big company. I am willing to bet money this had to do with limiting liability for Ford. If someone discovers a security breach on the keypad like they found with the Kia’s key hole a few years ago, Ford is cooked. The insurance companies would be able to get a lot of money out of them in court.
By making it a dealership installed option, there is at least a case to be made that the dealership and the keypad manufacturer (I am sure is a supplier) will take most of the liability.

They used the keypad for many many years. I donr remember hearing a thing about security.
I put my money on ford being cheep based on how they are deleting other comfort items.
It's too bad how bad the new 250.00 pad looks like. Like a set of NAPA hubcap.
I wonder how it's going to perform in winter conditions. I wonder if the new pad operates the same. Can I keep my truck running and lock the doors?

For 250.00 I would expect to get the original keypad that was installed on the door piller.

Look at how they butchered the Ford pass app. It's free for now. I bet not for long. So many complaints about features being removed.

There is no change to culpability for Ford by making this a DIO versus Factory. This seems to be more about creating efficiencies at the plants.

My '21 truck has the original style in the b-pillar and my '25 Explorer has the option for the illuminated b-pillar, which actually looks the best of all three options, but I haven't done the install for it yet. I do wonder if I add it if it would be covered by the ESP.

But then it can't be about cost.

Just talked to my dealer and it

@UGADawg96 The dealer installed this illuminated option before my wife's 2024 Escape purchase, and it is covered under my ESP. (It became and DIO in 2024 for the Escape Platinum only).

They said it wouldn't be covered if I installed it later. I didn't ask about the body shop installing it later and paying for the installation.
