Long time lurker. I'm thinking about getting an F150 lightning, and was curious (might be foolishly asking a simple question) of the following:

1. Can the openpilot device work on all trims of the lightning? I'm thinking of getting the cheaper XLT trim and adding Comma3x, as opposed to buying a Lariat or higher with Bluecruise.
2. Do I need the special harnessing? I've noticed on another forum that people had to get a special harness made.

I'm going to be doing an 80-mile mostly highway round trip commute 5 days a week, so I'd like an option that gives me hands free support. Thanks in advance!
You need adaptive cruise control. Some XLTs have it, some do not, depends on the package. It can be added DIY for about $800 if you don't want the package that includes it.

You don't NEED a custom harness, but the lightning gets some nuisance alarms on boot up without the custom harness. If you can live with the alerts that clear about 30 seconds after startup, you can use the stock harness.

I just installed a 3X with Bluepilot in my Lightning, should I get a different harness?

Also, what settings/model should I use for the most torque and best driving experience? I’ve tried experimental mode and it won’t turn enough in super tight situations. Thanks for your contributions to this community, I’ve been tinkering with OP for years and I love to see it!

None of the forks have enough torque right now. It’s the issue we spend 90% of our time on.

The ford platform has plenty of torque available, I can get the truck to make 90 degree turns, but getting it to do it consistently and predictably is the issue.

Thanks for the all the info, I really appreciate it! That’s understandable, I definitely don’t doubt the torque from the factory, hopefully I’ll have some time later this week to experiment with it.

Installed a 3x today on a 21 PB.

Started straight with bluepilot, I was wondering if there is a guide to which settings I should be using or not using, or is it just experimentation? Also, for models, North Dakota model or la/c.herbalist, any suggestions?

Btw, this is awesome. Thanks for the work

Thanks for this. Just an FYI step 8 says to jump to step 8 (and 9). Those need adjusted. To prevent future issues with adding steps would recommend a couple of paragraph names (CALIBRATION, etc) that you can refer to instead of number.

Regarding model selection, is it better to use the latest model in general? I noticed that the North Dakota model doesn't allow for the laneless function and a couple others, I'm assuming it is either built into the model or sunnypilot needs to do something first?

Also, what's the best way to contribute to the project? I'm near Alvin, TX.

I just bought this truck for this project, and I have 0 regrets so far, thanks for putting the word and work out.. again

Starting with the model LAv2 lots of functionality that SunnyPilot offered was killed off by a big change in the way comma structured the program and tried to move everything into the model, so those functions aren't available if you run newer models. With regards to which model is best, I find only incremental differences in them. Most of the "upgrades" in them were targeted at navigation, which Ford's can't use since we can't make turns. I usually run whatever is newest just so I know that any tweaks I'm working on don't cause issues with the latest model.

@Ajzride,very nice work, Thank you very much for your hard word! My car is Lincoln MKX 2018, My car has been modified with ACC, ABS, IPMA, SCCM, and steering, and is now able to run Sunnypilot. However, adaptation needs to be added before each time changed the system. Your work is very important for the Ford Openpilot developement, and I am willing to join the testing.

I just got bluepilot set up on my x3. Many thanks to AJ for all the work and help. On previous versions I could turn on a dash cam while running sunny pilot. Did this get turned off or was the feature completely removed?

How does calibration work now?
My steering wheel has been hunting left right. Exactly like it does when I have to run calibration in the past. This time I see a note that calibration is auto. When does that happen?
