My '22 Powerboost recently received BlueCruise 1.4 via OTA. Ford extended my 3 years of BlueCruise for 12 months. Since I'm likely going to lose BlueCruise in 2026, I am pondering comma.ai's v4. I like that they made it much, much smaller. My only two questions are:

1) will OpenPilot do lane changes like BlueCruise 1.4?, and

2) will OpenPilot do anything more than what BlueCruise 1.4 does?

1) OpenPilot will change lanes when you turn on your blinker like BC1.4. It will not decide to change lanes on its own like BC1.5.

2) OP is hands free on any road, not just divided highways. OP offers hands free while cruise control is disengaged and brake and gas are controlled by driver. OP cuts out 1% of the time BC cuts out.

Bluecruise is far inferior to BluePilot. No comparison. It is superior in every way (though maybe there’s some obscure factor I’m unaware of). It even works while towing! Works on all roads and does everything Bluecruise does. It works and works well. It does have that strange radar warning on rare occasions but it’s a nonissue.

@Ajzride or anybody who knows, a question or two on Comma and Open Pilot installation (hereafter simply Comma). I would like to disable BlueCruise and its nanny cam prior to installing the Comma. I know how to disable BlueCruise and its nanny cam, but does Comma require it to be enabled?

How to power the Comma? I don't want to use the OBDII port. I use it for something else. Is this required or just an option? Can The Comma be hardwired (my preference)? Can power be drawn from mirror area of the truck or will I need to draw power from the passenger kick panel fuse box?

You don't have to disable anything, the comma blocks the nanny cam everytime the comma goes online. But if you want the nanny disabled whenever you don't have the comma connected, then you can disable it in forscan. All the Comma needs is Adaptive Cruise Control. There are even a few F150 XL models with retrofit ACC that run Comma.

How to power the Comma? I don't want to use the OBDII port. I use it for something else. Is this required or just an option? Can The Comma be hardwired (my preference)? Can power be drawn from mirror area of the truck or will I need to draw power from the passenger lock panel fuse box?
The comma draws it's power from the IPMA (specifically the rear radar module connection), but those wires are only ignition powered, so the ODB2 port provides power when the vehicle is off. This is an optional feature that allows the device to be booted before the vehicle cranks and go online immediately (saves about 30 seconds of boot time). It also allows data to be uplaoded to the cloud while the vehicle is off. You can also use an ODB2 splitter to have mulitple ODB2 port devices connected. The connection for the Comma in an F150 is in the driver's footwell, so drawing power from the camera area is not viable, you would need to find it in the footwell, which is where ODB2 is located, so it's perfect. Just grab a splitter if you want 24/7 power.

Be sure to watch my install videos, it will help you understand where the connections are.
