That's really good to know! I read somewhere in one of the Installation Guides that they want you to reformat the USB after every update - and I suspect that @NickT_ was just following those same instructions. I thought all along that that would be a time consuming step, so it's great to learn that it's not actually necessary. Perhaps the purpose of reformatting is to ensure that ALL files are removed? ?‍♂
Deleting the files manually will accomplish the same thing. I always reformat it freshly between updates, but it's not necessary.

Is it okay to reboot it while the stick is in the truck? Also is it the track on the steering wheel or below the volume button
Radio power and forward seek on the radio; not the steering wheel.

There could be hidden files that your computer doesn't show when you click on the drive and delete it.
I have show hidden files enabled by default, but no there's a directory or 2 and security certificate.
Radio power and forward seek on the radio; not the steering wheel.
Volume down and track forward on the wheel work just as well.

That plays into my theory then... They want to make sure everything is gone, with no orphan files or lingering pieces. Yes, I can see that....

It only takes 5 seconds to reformat the USB. I did that last time I updated and everything worked. Not saying anyone has to do that, but its super fast to reformat.

Yeah, you're probably right. It has been a long time since I have done it, so my memory is likely incorrect. Plus, I think the last time I did it, the USB was a 256 GB running USB 1.0. I just seemed to remember that it took awhile... and considering the length of time it takes for the entire FDRS process, I can see where one would want to shave time wherever they can. But if its only seconds, then its a non-issue...

Thanks for correcting my preconception.

I just do the quick format option. A regular format would take a long time depending on the usb size.

Yeah, that's what my memory was telling me.... (maybe I'm not quite ready for the memory care center yet, after all... ?). The difference is likely the process, as you suggested: "quick" format vs. "full/regular".

Seems like there is a problem with his USB slot on the truck. CAN seems to be the only option. Anyone had to CAN and APIM before? It's 6GB's, so I am sure he's looking at 4+ hours. Anyone ever had to do that can verify how long it will take?
