What kinda rag is washington watch? 2 months in and so far $ spending is to get illegal out and keep them out. I'll pay for that. Your tears got another 3yrs and 10 months, keep kleenex handy.
When due process is denied to non citizens, it is a big step toward authoritarianism. It denies due process to citizens too and that is how people "disappear". As a government all I have to do is grab you in the middle of the night under the guise of me claiming you are not a citizen. Even though you may be. However since I say you are a non citizen you have no due process to prove that you are a citizen. No phone calls, no lawyers, no acknowledgement that we took you, nothing.

In 2014 and 2022 two major comprehensive immigration reform bills were presented to the senate. The first one in 2014 passed the senate with 69 votes. It then went to the House where they would not even bring it for a vote because they knew it would pass and a certain party is not interested in killing the goose laying the golden eggs. A similar thing happened in 2022. A certian orange person was not interested in actually helping reform this issue when they can continue to milk it for all it is worth.

Both bills would have added hundreds of immigration judges with the goal of giving people seeking asylum immediate due process so they can either be deemed to be legitimate immigrants or not and deported immediately. Sounds good unless of course if you really do not want to solve the issue for nefarious reasons.

What you believe due process to be for an illegal and an American citizen are, are two different things and there are 2 different rules for each. There's even separate rules for visa holders that they agreed to when they got them. Enforcing the law is just that. It needs to get crazy enough that they self deport vs risk the middle of the night roundup. Mandatory e-verify combined with banking and housing regulations are easier targets for legislation.

As for tariffs, they supposedly just went for the trade imbalance and used the percentage of import to export ratio as the penalty with some carveout exceptions for items and materials we just don't have. Free balanced trade is what's being sought. The biggest blow to the average person will come once the postal service's system is up and running. If you order cheapshit from china you'll likely have to pay tariffs electronically before USPS will even accept the package.
