I just hit 1000 miles on my new truck. When is everyone doing the first break in oil change. What do you recommend? Is 10,000 miles too many miles for an interval?

I did mine at 1100 miles and change it every 4-5K miles, but never past 5000. Ignore that worthless oil monitor and just keep a record of all your oil changes. 10K intervals just help the manufacturers to sell you a new car/truck much sooner than needed.

After an unscheduled 2000 mile round-trip in my 2019 Ranger, I changed the oil at 6000 miles---that oil was BLACK !! I'll never do that again !!

I have done 5000 miles between OC almost exclusively from the start. Once life got in the way and I went to 6600, so I got it back by doing 4600 next two OC.
with CD, I think the importance of regular OC cannot be overstated.

Hit my first change on every new Ford product at 2K, then at 5K. If a bunch of towing was done it was changed at 3K just to be sure "good stuff" was running around in the engine while working harder. Two trucks doing the tow thing, one Shelby GT500 (every 3K on it), wife's short trip Focus every 5K with no engine issues ever on any of them. All oils were fully synthetic at recommended weight.

Did you guys use synthetic on first change (mobil 1 for example)? Or do you break in with regular?

I'd always run full synthetic, there's no real benefits to running regular during break in other than slight increased wear. Synthetic oil is pretty much always better.

The factory says 10k but I changed my 2024 5.0 at 3500 along with tire rotation.....I added Motorcraft 5W-30 synthetic blend...

Did first oil change @ 1k miles and will do every 5k. Seems like that’s what everyone is doing.

Like others, I would do it now at 1,000 and then on the 5’s thereafter - 5k, 10k, 15k …:

I was Naturally Aspirated from 24 miles to 15K miles and had full synthetic oil changes every 5K miles along with tire balance and rotations. I also rotate between Seafoam Truck & SUV/Chevron Complete Fuel System Treatments every oil change as well. Then at 15K miles I added a Whipple Supercharger Gen 6 Stg 1 and the only thing that has changed is me going to a thicker 5w50 synthetic oil because of the Whipple. I still change my full synthetic oil at 5K intervals along with my gas treatments. Then when I just recently hit 30K miles total on my truck this last oil change, I’ve began rotating between Liqui Moly MoS2, Liqui Moly Truck Series oil treatment, RevX oil treatment and RevX Zinc once every oil change.
