why not stick with what the manufacturer recommends? like above. if its a normal duty truck why go nuts? I change mine every 5K miles. and I am not into debating oils either. just my 2 cents. plenty of internet opinions over the best oils. take your pick

Four doesn’t use this because it’s the best, they use it because it’s cheap and meets the standard. Why not use something that exceeds the standard?

My 1st oil change was free from my dealer and they used Motorcraft synthetic blend wIth a Warren Buffet additive (which I did not request).

My 2nd oil change I used Valvoline Restore & Protect synthetic and it seems smoother.

I use the cheapest synthetic oil that meets the standard and change it more frequently - 8,000 km between changes. I've used Costco Kirkland 5W30 for the last two years, however there have been some great sales on Motomaster OE 5W30 recently (Rebranded Shell/Penzoil/Quaker State).

I've somehow managed to get to the point where my F150, my wife's Bronco, my lawnmower, my snowblower, and my emergency generator all use the same oil.

I have been using AMSOIL signature for years with 4000 miles oil change, that is just me.

I'm neither a chemical nor mechanical engineer, so I just pick one that meets the spec in the owners manual. That makes it easy.

I chose Valvoline Extended Protection 5w30, because it meets the spec and is readily available at the nearby Walmart for under $30 a jug. The geeks over at BITOG seem to like that it has a nice slug of moly in it. I pick up a Motorcraft filter too while I'm at Walmart.

You see, that's what makes me jealous of you Americans - the fact you can get filters in Walmart readily and inexpensively.

In Canada (bear with me, I have a 2.7 Nano) my Motorcraft oil filter costs $29.95 CAD ($21.50 USD) from the dealer. You can't get them anywhere else. I went to Buffalo with the wife and was in Walmart when I came across the same filter for $8.00 USD. That's almost 3 filters for the price of 1 here!

Every motor I have run gets the oil changed @ 500 then 1,000 just to make sure any micro metal shavings are gone. I am overly paranoid about lack of proper cleaning at the factory and for good reasons. Peace of mind is worth it. Then every 5,000.

My 2024 5.0 got M1, 5W-30 EP at just over 1000 miles. I then change the oil when the ODO hits the '5000's. So next is 5000, then 10,000 etc.

Simple and easy, and no planning or Oil Life Monitor necessary.

Resume: I am a retired Mobil Oil flight department employee, with tech-level development exp in HTS (high thermal stability) (Jet 254) oil, SHC-100 grease and more. Tech-level racing marine and automotive engine development for Ford and Mercury (two stroke and turbocharged).

Reasons for my choice: (Note: Adequate viscosity is key with any choice) The M1 engineers are superb and produce a quality product available anywhere at a good price. The EP oils use a blend of 2 truly superb AN base stocks (alkylated naphthalene) which have Low volatility to minimize oil consumption and Excellent thermal/oxidative stability. Along with maximizing the effectiveness of additives.

A long winded answer that results in a perfectly clean and healthy 230,000 mile engine, every single time (that's about as long as I keep my stuff).

In the end, we don't want to change timing chains due to particulate related wear, and the new 5.0's have a Kevlar oil pump belt. Wet belts are intolerant of contaminated, dirty oil. What ever oil you choose, change it frequently enough to prevent 1000's of miles of circulating contaminates.
