I'll throw this into the pile. At high altitude, the 5.0 is worthless. Put a 4-6,000 pound camper behind it, and try to drive up I-70 to the Eisenhower tunnel and you will never again buy a small displacement NA V8. The Powerboost destroys the V8 in every aspect when doing truck things. If you live at or near sea level, and use your truck for getting groceries, picking up the kids from school etc. Im sure its fine.

Now, a Whipple on a 5.0, thats a different story. The Coyote loves boost.

The PowerBoost loses to the V8 on about all fronts doing work/truck things, try again. You have less payload, you have less cooling capacity and a less thermally efficient engine, and you get worse fuel efficiency towing. I use my 5.0 to run a business out of, it’s a prefect tool. If “oh you have to rev more” is a metric then I guess hooray for you? That isn’t a measurable metric for me, my 5.0 hauls my boat and enclose trailer with no issue.

Not at 7,000 feet it doesn't. Oh, and let's not forget about the Pro power onboard option.

Less thermally efficient engine? What is that even supposed to mean?

The 3.5 EB creates more heat to generate the same amount of power, and tends to overheat before the N/A option does without the intervention of an enriched mixture (which further deteriorates the all-ready worsened fuel economy). It’s pretty well documented.

Your post was just plain silly talk, you don’t see hybrid half tons out working. By the time you put a lawn chair in the bed you are bottomed out and riding the bump stops lol.

+1. The addition of emissions equipment for turbo diesel engines have made them less reliable over time in the passenger vehicle segment.

The commercial turbo diesel powertrains are not quite the same and have been designed with a significantly longer service life.
Yeah, the 80k mile intake teardown / cleaning service to remove all of that soot that builds up isn't optional. Not to mention the DPF failures / issues that plague T4 motors. Fun fact when the DOD orders modern diesel trucks they come from the factory with those items deleted. Not even sure if it's legal to buy those off auction and it be road legal. Rules for thee but not for me. Fun stuff.

My personal take on it?

I have no desire to drive a hybrid anything. I do NOT want the extra technology that may or may not be ready for prime time. Period.

The 5.0 is not a dog. Yes, it takes revving, a 3.73, and perhaps a throttle pedal box to "wake it up" to your PB standards. But I was prepared for that. And the sound is glorious. Period.

I sense a bit of a PB Elitist vibe with most fellas who buy those trucks. Bragging rights having the newest tech and all that. To each their own, I guess. I wonder how the Lightning guys feel about your PB, not that it matters :ROFLMAO:

But to say the PB is the epitome of full-size pickup though is a bit of a stretch.

I'll get off my soap box now.

Naw, it’s just fun when they use the F250 as my PB’s competition. ?

I couldn’t agree more. The 5.0 should worry about the 2.7 and stay away from the big boys ?

There’s a fleet of powerboosts at a construction company near my house. XLT’s and one lariat for the boss. They work and tow every day, and guys sit in them and eat lunch nearby in their trucks in the AC. Mine has a 1734lb payload, sees work, and doesn’t get hot. The 630 mile tanks don’t hurt either!

I dig the 775 mile tanks in my 5.0. I want to try for 800 on a road trip one of these days.

I'm going to try to get this thread to 10 pages.

The 3.3L is the best engine Ford has ever made.
Now that there is a reliable workhorse of an engine. Probably beat the PB in a tug of war any day

I was hoping no one would bring that up.

Just ride the bus then you don’t have to worry about either one!! I will stick to my 3.5 works for me. If it doesn’t work for you that’s great too. Everyone has their choice.
