Been over five days since the software update downloaded but will not install. It keeps saying preconditions are not met. Everything was off and in range of the wifi. I am confused.

1. Close all doors and windows

2. Turn the ignition to the "on" position without starting the engine, or start/on without foot on brake pedal

3. Flash the high beams five times using the "flash to pass" stalk on the steering wheel

4. Press the brake pedal three times within 10 seconds

5. The battery light on the instrument cluster will flash, indicating the BMS has been reset

It isn't because of Wifi, that's for certain.
Most likely the SOC of the 12V battery.
I thought it might be that but had a long drive on Tuesday of over 100 miles and did not update that night either.

Then you could be right and my assumption is not the reason for the failure. I was speaking statistical odds.

Hopefully @rugedraw will see something that explains. Nobody has seen more OTA data than that man. :)

Well, damn. This is a first. You have not one.....not two......but 3 active OTA triggers on your truck. One needs to go through (or fail) before the next one can attempt to install. The one it is trying to install now is the PCM one.

Ford F-150 Software Update Ready to Install but doesn't 1715962720985-cu

It has failed repeatedly due to very poor battery stats:

"errorCode":"InhibitRequiredHvNotQualifiedLvLow(204)""totalLvBatteryCapacity":"31""currentLvBatteryDataQuality":"OK""currentLvBatteryVoltage":"12""currentLvBatterySoc":"48""currentLvBatteryTemperature":"26""dynamicPostUpdateSocThreshold":"41""estimatedTimeToActivate":"420""estimatedTimeIncludingRollback":"600""currentDrainRate":"9"

Battery capacity is at 31 out of 70 and charge at 38 out of 100. I would try driving the truck for a good 20-30 minutes and then try to install the update manually as soon as you park it. Or put it on a good charger overnight and try to manually install it in the morning if the battery is topped off.

Well according to @rugedraw your assumption is correct.

If it is Motorcraft battery I wouldn't even bother trying any of that and just go with quality aftermarket the largest size that will fit. H8 for non-Powerboost and H7 for Powerboost. You'll thank us later. :)

Just saw about your 100 mile drive a few days ago. Leaving it parked overnight will drain the charge; especially higher trim trucks with more tech and more modules. Once you fully charge it and try again, if it fails, lmk so I can check again what battery stats it reported. If the SoC goes up but the capacity stays low, then your battery may be bad and need to be replaced. If that happens, we can try a BMS reset after you fully charge it. If that doesn't work, then the battery is most likely toast. Your truck has been reporting low battery voltage soft codes to the cloud for months.

Thanks, I turned off the approach lighting since it was eating up a lot of the battery. I just may go and get a new battery to see if this solves the problems. Last month the dealer had the battery good to go.

Did they do the 20 second test on the service drive, or did the keep the truck and do the real battery test that takes hours? The quick one is worthless to determine if these batteries are healthy or not.
