Oh how I wish that was caught in all its youtube glory. I'm not a vengeful man, nor would I want any specific person at any specific dealership to suffer public humility. So it would be fine to blur the faces and the dealerships name.

But the disconnect between the customer and those that are supposedly standing behind the product? It really needs to be exposed for the naked emporer that it currently is. ??

The peasants are more capable and qualified than the experts. Simply mind-boggling how arrogant the legacy model is as it self destroys its own credibility.

But how can Ford monetize it if the unclean masses can do it without the dealership?

Ford received $1000 from this peasant for the license to check on my own truck. I look at it as Ford sold the peasant the same tool(s) that every technician has to purchase to work on the Ford product.

It's the dealership that should object to my ability to do so. I've now had 2 F150's that have never been in a dealerships service bay. (knock on wood) Yet one of them required multiple visits to the service bay and quite a few hours of service. :)

When an update from Microsoft kills our computers for a day it is something we have learned to live with and a part of the cost of owning Windows computers. It is something else again to have a disabled vehicle or get into an accident (as with multiple Tesla cars) and possibly die as a result of programmers inadequacies and the lack of quality control and testing.

There are testing programs that can be configured to run a wide range of test scenarios in a short amount of time but they require specialists trained in how to set up the tests and few companies go to the expense to do this properly. Microsoft as of 2017 now depends on its customers to find the bugs and patches can often introduce new problems which are not being caught in large part to the companies no longer testing their product.

More and more aspects of vehicles is being digitized and it is to be expected that there will be far more problems from coding problems than with the analog controls of the past. Don't expect a car manufacturer or a dealer to warn you as they only see it as a way to increase the prices for their products.

I would never have auto updates enabled for anything. Always safer to wait until others have done the testing on their vehicles or computers or smartphones and let them be the guinea pigs. Going back to the 1980's the software companies had legislation drafted that exempts them completely from any harm caused as a result of the use of their products. So very much a buyer/user beware situation.

Microsoft faces a much more difficult task of writing code that is compatible with an almost countless number of different devices. Most of which they didn't manufacture.

Ford has their updates limited to devices that THEY manufactured and with a very finite number of possible configurations.

Testing the latest BCM update on a Powerboost mockup would be fundamental, I would have assumed.
