Am I the only person in the world that does not have a smart phone? I just can't believe that you need one to use your truck! I guess I'm a dinosaur as I still have a land line and a desktop computer? I was recently forced to upgrade to Windows 11 as my old machine (Windows 7) passed away with a failed hard drive.

I find it totally unsatisfactory that features are not available on the touch screen! A $70K vehicle should be user friendly! FordPass is totally useless as my computer will not talk to my truck. Needing an outside device to "make it user friendly" is not user friendly!

My dealer was able to assist with getting the NAV turned on, not sure what else he will have to help with.....rant over now.

Don't need a smartphone but it does help for some features.

You could also use a tablet.

It’s difficult to live offline in 2024

I'll also add that connected services and other stuff can be paid through your Ford account on Ford website. You shouldn't need FordPass for everything, but it will certainly help.

The FordPass crapp has been rendered pretty useless anyway so you’re not really missing much there.

There's nothing special about the app. It's not needed to do anything with the truck unless you want to remote start or lock/unlock the doors from anywhere in the world.

Especially since @Ford Motor Company gimped the ever-loving shit out of the app and removed all but the most basic functionality. Even those barely work now as well.

No, you're not the only one but there are not many of us left. I don't have a smart phone and most of the time don't even carry my dumb phone. Even when I do carry it I seldom look at or use it. Had it about 10 years and never sent a text on it. Only recently took a picture with it! I find it quite nice not being connected 24/7. But my wife has a smart phone so when we are together we're connected. We got lost on a nature hike one time and she used the phone to locate the truck to find our way back. Can get more music with the phone on CarPlay too. I may get one someday, just don't want to be a slave to it.

Wait, you have windows 11? I keep getting the "we're going to leave you succeptable to attacks before long when we stop win 10 support, but your computer needs a $2000 upgrade to be compatible" warning.

You can't really expect a progressive company like Ford with cutting edge technology to not use that technology in their vehicles because of a very, very small percentage of potential buyers.

I don't expect that, just include a "go around" or an option. It's not that hard, the 23s were able to do everything without a "smart phone" and it is as sophisticated as the 24s? Just a marketing ploy to generate a cash flow system?

Start the NAV. Had to go to the dealership and have the sales guy do the startup. Looks like I have the "fancy" nav that will need $80/yr to operate?

Not if you had a smartphone, then you could use one of the free apps available for navigation.

There are plenty of ways to upgrade to W11 without having to upgrade the hardware. Besides as long as you have a quality AV solution installed and are mindful of where you're surfing and what is opened/installed you can stay on 10 for a LONG time after official support has ended. Even then I suspect that MS will push back the EOS date for W10 like they did for W7 due to the sheer number of active systems still on it.
