Ah well the rollout is a little cheating.
I wish you were my salesman, you make a good point for the powerboost
This thing is in the 3s 0-60 -- probably around 3.6

I saw some guy on the forum with a 3.5 0-60 which is pretty nuts.

Wonder if anyone will mess around and throw a bigger motor into the trans...

This kinda solidifies me wanting a powerboost lol

If you don't have a Powerboost, then it's just data that you have to work with. Posts you read. Articles and YouTube feedback.

It gets its fair share of good reviews as well as bad. So you continue to weigh.

But, if you HAVE one, and you live with it day-in day-out, the data becomes real. You aren't weighing it intellectually, but rather living it.
As long as you aren't unfortunate and get a lemon, the truck just keeps surprising you. It really raises the bar for easy access performance. Casually, a beast.

All the current drive trains in the F150 can draw a grin if you give it the spurs. Ford doesn't have a dog in the bunch. But the Powerboost is pretty special. I'm 3 1/2 years in and still am smitten with HOW it goes about meeting the torque request.

Def a beater.

From eons ago:

Ford F-150 Powerboost or RamCharger 5-jpg
Cadillac abuse!

And I'll note that the 70s Eldorado was the smallest cadillac of the period (at least until the rest of the line got downsized in '77!)

[*shudder*]

I may be wrong here but, I thought one of our turbos was designed to get rid of lag on the bottom end?
no data, but that might make sense: a small turbo that idle or. close to idle can keep spun.

Then there's the Bentley Turbo R of the 80s. For decades, when asked for power output, Rolls Royce Engines answered "sufficient". And then during the Great Castration, when the top corvettes and Porsches were doing 0-60 in 6s, Rolls slapped a pare of large turbos on the 412cid Rolls v8, and the Turbo R could match them to a 6s 0-60. (of course, it didn't get the 9mpg of the rest of the Rolls/Bentleys of the period . . .). Anyway, iirc, the exhaust at idle was enough to keep the turbos at lean partially spun up.

maybe with production dialed back a bit GM, Ford and RAM can get better at QC'ing these trucks.
Unh-huh. Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny will be consulting . . .

The Ramcharger might as well be a Tardis for this discussion.
Now that's hardly fair. The Ramcharger seems to be science fiction, not low budget sci-fi!

Anyway, the scenario I'm currently toying with is to get a maverick hybrid for my wife now, bring a stack of pillows if I need to do distance driving, and either get the ramcharger if it cuts the mustard, or wait for the ~28 PEV F-150.

And if I *do* go the ramcharger route, my inclination is to commit the mortal sin of leasing a vehicle, so it's their problem if it's a fiasco and the value tanks. [I see that dodge ESP only goes to 8 years, not 10 like ford!]

Haha! In all fairness it was a beater I paid $500 for as I didn't want to drive my XJ6 in winter.

I think there was as much bondo in that car as metal.

Look at the driver side front fender damage by the signal light and how well the fender lined up with the door, lol

In fact I can attest to that as I stripped it down to bare 'metal.' Somewhere in my house I have a picture of it with the burgundy paint (as well as the multiple other layers of paint that were under it) stripped off getting ready for primer and paint.

I paid $2,000 for my '72 convertible about 15 years ago, to a body shop that wanted it out of the way. They'd had it a couple of years, after getting it from a mechanic who'd had it for a couple more, after a lady started doing it in bits & pieces.

Lots of small things it needs, but all small stuff that a guy can do. But when I bought it (one of my dream cars), we were expecting a payment for our stolen van that would have been good enough for driver-quality paint, top, and interior.

And driving it home, we found the van parked a couple of blocks from my house. So I got a project instead.

I'd thought that the serious castration by GM had been in '72, dropping by a third, but have since found that that's simply the year reported horsepower changed from gross to net. So 1970 it shipped with 400 gross, which dropped to 365 (and 235 net) for '71 to '73 when compression was dropped to allow use of the upcoming unleaded gas, and losing a chunk every year after that until it couldn't get out of its own way.

But a '72 is still a full-fledged big bloc Cadillac torque-monster!

72 is my favorite year for full size Chevy's and Caddys. Had a '71 Rivi GS455 that was pretty sweet too. Had the buckets / console with the aircraft style shifter.

And, I've had a soft spot for 70's Eldorado convertibles ever since I saw True Romance, haha

Ford F-150 Powerboost or RamCharger zcadillacfleetwoodeldorado3

I guess I've always had a soft spot for bondo riddled Caddy's too. I knew my 60 Coupe DeVille was a bondo ridden 70's restoration but, I thought it could be saved. The interior was mint. But, it turned out that and the 390 were about the only salvageable thing on that car... Too be young and dumb.... My eyes were def bigger than my wallet with that car.

You can see my Daily Driver two tone green 77 Impala in the pics of the 74 I posted above and behind my '60 below. That Impala was a cream puff. 350 4 barrel and no other options.

the differences between the '71 & '72 Eldorado were:
1) HP reported net starting in 1972,
2) '71 was the last year for that oddball ventilation system of GM that exhausted inside air through slats in the body above the trunk, and
3) (the bad one!) Engine size on side reported as 8.2L rather than 500!

There is a 1970 eldorado at my local junkyard that has 8.2 on the front grille. Surprised the hell out of me. I would've snatched the motor and maybe trans but a snake cam inspection revealed ton o' rust in several cylinders. This is particularly unfortunate given that the engine was totally together, all plugs still in the heads, air filter housing on and tightened down, etc. Must have been moisture creeping through the intake manifold over years to do all that with it still all together.

hmm. I don't recall any cadillac, let alone a 70s eldorado, with a displacement on the grill.

Aftermarket, perhaps?

I have a 2021 Powerboost with an extended warranty that is up on 2030 and will be tracking the Ramcharger's field testing for the next few years to make a decision. I love the concept and will get one unless Ford steps it up before then.

Not if it's a shop queen tho.

If I do go the ramcharger path, I'm going to look hard at the numbers and seriously evaluate committing the financial mortal sin of a lease--to avoid the risk of excessive depreciation. But if they build a large depreciation in, I'll pass entirely. If *dodge* thinks it will depreciate more than a regular truck, well . . .

Although just getting a maverick for my wife and, say, a '53 Mercury convertible for me, would cost about the same. Hmm . . .

Do not rush to buy one-ram has managed to greatly screw up the introduction of the hurricane engine into the 2025 ram 1500's, and that's with the engine already having been used for 2 years in jeeps. Imagine the potential fuckery with so much new hardware in the ramcharger.

Actually, I'm even more concerned about the mess of the 4xe plugin wrangler by the same overlords. A different design (not enough plugin miles to worry about), but same corporate overlords in control.

Maverick for wife now and wait for plugin f150 (or classic convertible ?) for me appears the most probable at the moment.

it keeps coming back to, well, "dodge"
