that I don't know about.

But my understanding is that the "longer" molecules of a synthetic straighten out with heat, keeping the viscosity up.

Synthetic's real payoff is when something goes wrong, like sudden oil loss. It clings to the metal more, lubricating a bit longer.

About 45 (gulp  ) years ago, a synthetic vendor (Mobile 1?) ran a commercial with a room full of of motors running, then being drained of oil. The last engine running was their synthetic.
This guy really lives up to his name

SuperTech/Kirkland Synthetic and change every ~5k at home. Easy to keep track of and proven by both motor oil geek, project farm, and thousands of others to be solid oil comparable with any of the name brands for long term personal use.

Starting a fresh interval. $146 this time. That’s the most I’ve spent thus far. $0 was the least.

Mine also showed about 4800 miles to next oil change for a few weeks after my last oil change. After a 1500 mile round trip to Colorado it shows this.

I saw that when I sent this pic. A cold front (relatively speaking) in DFW passed through and my truck hasn't been driven since then. I'm going to air them up before I drive it. :)

Poor tires -- that's got to make for a squishy ride!?
Yea! I was going to say the same. I also noticed the recommended pressure is 36psi. My 21 PB XLT 4x4 SCrew on the 20" rims is 35psi. Just curious, is 36psi a new recommendation or based on an option like Max tow? I don't have Max tow but I do have the tow tech package.
And FYI - I've been running up to 37psi most of the time (when I remember to check them...):sneaky:

Back to 5W30?

When we got the 2002 E150, it was a pain, as 5w20 synthetic was still exotic. I was picking it up myself, iirc, and paying my mechanic to put it in so that I would have the log for the warranty.

And then a dealer in Arizona where we visited twice a year came out with Express Lane (?), which had it in drums--so the change cost less than buying five quarts retail.

I wonder why still semi-synthetic instead of full synthetic.

And if it can take 10w30, I could keep one kind of oil around for it and the Cadillacs.

No, wait; the mustang and Miata both still want 5w20.

You're in vegas so you can run 5w-30 w/out issue. At temp just about every oil is roughly the same viscosity (super close). The light weights are a fuel efficiency thing. Some 10w synthetics and conventional 5ws flow nearly the same when cold.

The 3.5L twin turbo have been 5W-30 almost forever. My 2014 F150 also used 5W-30 oil.

The last new vehicles I bought were an '06 Miata and an '02 E150.

Nothing else this century . . .

I am overthinking this, but here’s an update to the OP.

The oil change meter has dropped by 186 miles and 2%. If you do the math on that, the oil change interval is 9,300 miles. That sounds more realistic than what the meter says.

The meter doesn’t seem too logical so setting a mileage is probably the way to go. I’ll probably follow the meter while it’s under warranty so they can’t say anything, then I’ll go back to 5,000 miles like I used to do.

Keep in mind, the factory OCI is a maximum…..nothing wrong with reducing that max interval.

Oil is cheap, engines aren’t, change it early.
