I ordered my '22 Lariat 3.5 EB in December 2021 (took delivery in March 2022). During the process of selecting options, trim levels, power trains, etc. One of the larger debates I had with myself was which engine to get - the 3.5 with the twin turbos, or the 5.0 (I ultimately chose the 3.5). Shame on me, but the 2.7 was not even a consideration - it was dismissed out of hand. Since then however, I have read a number of articles indicating that it is actually a fine, strong little engine.

Fast-forward to yesterday. After dropping off my truck at the dealership for some warranty work, I got a 2024 F-150 4WD as a loaner vehicle. When I got it home, I looked closer at the window sticker. It had a 2.7. I was surprised. The truck seemed to have plenty of power, drives great, and gets better fuel mileage. My earlier prejudice was turned around. Lesson learned.

I think so. It should get more attention than it does. I have driven 2.7Ls and I have been very impressed. In my opinion, if you don't tow often and fairly heavy, this is the best Ford engine. However, Ford doesn't even let you get it in a Lariat anymore, so if you want upper trims, this is a no-go.

The 2.7 paired with the extended range 36 gallon tank is the honey shot for range, routinely getting over 800 miles per tank.

Imo the most reliable motor ford has built in recent years outside of maybe the 2.3l 4 popper tho that one sounds like a fart can.

Barring e85 capability and sound of v8, Id have that motor in my truck.

i have 21 lariat - 2.7 with 36 gallon tank and fully enjoy it. i was shopping for 2.7s due to only needing to tow a small 5x10 utility trailer occasionally on very flat terrain, I didn't have a true need for anything bigger. but what i do a lot of is family road trips. the 2.7 made sense and i have a nice range.

I do admit the 2.7 is very adequate, but sometimes it would be nice to slam the pedal of a 3.5. but in the end, i have a different vehicle for "spirited" driving.

The 2.7 is an awesome motor. Four of us at work have F150s and all of us have the 2.7. It's built like a brick shithouse.

It's great off the line, to the point where I get annoyed because I don't get to rev it out before I hit the speed limit (and then some). On the highway I've gotten down to 7.2l/100km (32.6 MPG), it's easily the most reliable engine in the F150 lineup, and maintenance on it is a pleasant experience with the top mounted filter.

The only time I've noticed the 2.7 lacking is during highway passing - the 3.5 wallops it, but it still does better than most other cars.

I'm sure there's a chance I would have bought a 5.0L if I'd been able to get over my prejudices about truck V8s - I was assigned a Tahoe with a 5.3L for a while and that thing went nowhere quick while burning off a lot of fuel.

I have 41K on my 21 Lariat 2.7 and while I had reservations at time of purchase, four yeas later I am glad made that choice. I like the mileage/ power balance and so far, no mechanical issues. I would get the 2.7 again if I could go back in time with no hessitation. I do tow@ 4k and I can't even feel the trailer.

I’ve had two, the last a 19 RCSB with 3.73 rear end. What a great combination. I miss it.

To answer the question from a different angle...,

Not on my Bronco is it (a red-headed stepchild)!

My 2.7 drives better than my previous F150's with the 4.6 V8 (2004 and 2009) and 28 mpg on the highway to boot. Part of that is having the 10 speed-it works so well with the 2.7.

I have the 2.7 in my STX scab, and it is very adequate. Good gas mileage, enough payload for a medium sized 5th wheel trailer and 3.73 gears and 36 gallon tank, and still getting better or the same mileage towing that the V8 gets, plenty of get up and go, no issues mechanically.

My 2.7 with 3.73 is doing quite well….electrical gremlins all across the board (mentioned in many forums) but has been fixed since I got a new battery (went H8 which suited my needs for traveling and camping) sport mode has given me whiplash a few times so now I keep a neck brace under my seat ?

The bored/stroker 3.0/2.7 that Ford paired with the 100HP electric motor for the short-lived Aviator Hybrid was just an amazing powerplant. If they had mated that to the 10R140, it would've been an absolute monster in the Superduty. The 3.5l Powerboost system has more power than the F150 can effectively utilize for truck tasks, but it would've been amazing in the GT(40). I have this crazy suspicion that one day, Powerboosts are going to find a new life as transplant engines for sleeper classics. The idea of a 1967 silver/black racing stripe hardtop Mustang with a fiberglass Shelby body, a Powerboost powertrain, a fabricated 4 wheel independent suspension with AWD would be a pretty sweet car. Maybe I'd call it "Evelyn".
