I have the 2.7 in my STX scab, and it is very adequate. Good gas mileage, enough payload for a medium sized 5th wheel trailer and 3.73 gears and 36 gallon tank, and still getting better or the same mileage towing that the V8 gets, plenty of get up and go, no issues mechanically.
I just got the STX model I was wondering what are you getting for gas mileage and does your seat belt diagram on your dashboard go out on its own or do you have to push ok every time you get in the trunk

i range anywhere from 19-25 depending how hard I get into it in normal mode. Eco mode around 26-27 680 per tank usually. When I hook and pull 5th wheel those numbers well let’s say around 9-10, but I can’t complain she pulls great and gets the same as the big boys

Thank you for your reply !!
I was just wondering !! Right now I’m getting around 17.7 on my trip meter but I only have 177 miles on the truck so I’m hoping it will get better after It breaks in

I was getting 21 mixed driving and 22-23 on the highway until I put a cap on the back which destroyed all that. I just got back from a 1000 mile trip each way all highways a couple days ago picking up a trailer and did an actual mpg check (calculated, not using the dash). Going there, 70 mph mostly, Normal Mode setting, regular gas, without the trailer of course, the best I got was 20 mpg. Towing a light empty 2100 lb trailer on the way back, (same speed), Tow Mode setting, Premium gas, I got 9 most of the time, 8.5 in the real hilly regions, and only one fill-up did it hit 10 on a super flat stretch. Worse than I expected overall, but since it is getting the same mileage as my 16 year old Honda Accord on the highway (not towing) I guess not bad for a truck.

Multiple state road trip 1500+ miles and I filled up once on way there and once on way back then drove to work for most a week after.

2.7 + 36 gallon tank is pretty sweet compared to my old 3.5 sucking gas but I'm sure the newer version gets better mileage.

25+ MPG from my 2.7 beats my old 2011 that was never more than 15 MPG over 12 years.

I've rented several F150s and driven 2.7/3.5/5.0 several times.

2.7 is best daily driver - torque nearly instantly at any speed.

The 2.7 or as I like to think of it, the 3.0 Hurricane killer ?

I just traded my 18 XLT with the 2.7 engine. I put 235,000 miles on it. I did oil (every 7500 miles), air filter, plugs twice (every 100K) and egr pipe $235, I did nothing else to it. Never changed the coolant either. It was a sealed system, that stayed sealed. The 23 I just bought has the same engine. Just wish I had the 36 gallon tank like before.

When I was looking for a new truck when I bought my 2017 F150, I looked pretty hard for a 2.7 Lariat. I think I might look at 2023 2.7 Lariat again soon here. Or a 3.5 Tremor. In 2023 I put my Dad into a 2.7 Lariat. He's loving it.

My first ever turbocharged gasoline truck was a 2.7 F150 XLT Sport. I was entirely sceptical when my go-to Ford guy suggested I test drive one before deciding against it.

Man was I surprised 10 years ago!

Admittedly I stepped up to the 3.5 on my next F150, and then the Powerboost after that. But the 2.7 was the perfect choice for the light towing I do. And it's perhaps the most trouble free drivetrain available in a Ford F150.

That is one thing that disappointed me is cutting 2.7 from Lariat as an option on the new model years. Happy with my 21 and not being forced into the gas hungry 3.5

The bored/stroker 3.0/2.7 that Ford paired with the 100HP electric motor for the short-lived Aviator Hybrid was just an amazing powerplant. If they had mated that to the 10R140, it would've been an absolute monster ……..
What he said x10. Also 2x or 3x battery. Save some weight in the engine for more battery.

I had a 3.5 EB in my 2018 Explorer Sport. Not Great at economy. 18 maybe 19 mpg best. My 2021 F150 EB gets 20.9 to 21.7 in town. On the highway it gets from 22.8 to 23.7 mpg. I did get 24.2 in Nebraska once. I don't tow often so don't need much torque. The 2.7 has 325 HP and 400 Ft lbs. I like the 3.5 hybrid but not worth the added cost. My 2.7 did drop in mpg once for a year. It went down to 14 mpg. Seems that a possible issue was the front hub lock out got stuck. The vacuum valve on driver's side under hood didn't have enough vacuum to release hub but turned off dash light indicator. Took a long time to figure it out. Sometime if mpg drops turn on 4X4 then off and back up a bit to release tension on splines. You can also check this if you jack the front end up. Turn 1 wheel with your hand other tire should not move.

In my opinion the 2.7l is today's version of the 4.6l. Its the middle power engine option to offer better fuel economy with more power than the base v6. I think it comes down to how you buy trucks. I personally decide what engine suits my needs and year I want etc and start looking. I found a few trucks that were perfect. But had the 2.7 so they were done to me. I was looking for a 3.5. I was the proud owner of a 2000 4.6l for 7 years and always regretted not buying the 5.4l, learned my lesson. In my case I tow a camper. Normal day to day would be fine with the 2.7. But when im towing a camper up a mountain I can't call the dealer or my friend and ask them if they can poof 75 hp and 100 pounds of extra torque through the phone into my engine. I have to decide what I need before hand. I think for alot the 2.7 is perfect but to alotta folks its not on their radar if theyre looking for top performance or towing numbers. So to answer your question to me yes its the red headed step child, not because its bad in any way, its just not the most powerful option so I overlooked it by default. To be fair I intentionally overlooked the 5.0 too.
