Is it me or are people just making things more complicated by trying different routes when a clear path is available?
I mean that meter transfer switch is about as easy as it gets. Installing a subpanel with a few select circuits that are then jumpere'd back to their runs in the primary panel is arguably the most-work path there is.

I get some people not understanding the variables and that's understandable. There's a really simple path ala meter transfer switch, and the most cost effective path of a breaker interlock.

Quick question - I have an electrician over installing the Generac switch panel box and he mentioned that the circuits moved over will now only work in the switch panel and no longer will work in the original panel. I'm way out of my league which is why I hired this out to a licensed electrician but I haven't read that about the breakers so thought I'd ask this group.

True. You just reset the (affected) breaker on the switch panel instead of the main.

Thanks for the quick reply, I figured he was correct given he's been doing this for over 40 years but I like most, or some, of you know nothing about this type of stuff.

As other have said. You are moving the breaker from the main to the sub panel (Transfer switch) so make sure you label them correctly as the main panel will not utilize these anymore.

When running off utility power the two panels work together.

Yep, what the experts say! no difference just make sure you label.

Currently labeled in sharpie to match the corresponding, now out of service, main panel switches. I have a label maker around here somewhere though so I'll make it a bit easier to read! Electrician also documented what color wire went to each switch in the main box, just as a secondary measure.

Yes this is the switch end plug. They are crazy expensive retail. But the product itself is pretty convenient. No electrician, no separate panel, etc.

Will you report back when you get this Generlink meter mounted transfer switch setup up and running? I am thinking of going this route.

You should check your local electrical codes and with electrical utility to make sure it’s allowed before you purchase this

I finally got this tested out this weekend. Worked like a charm.

The switch itself came with a 40’ cord which wasn’t quite long enough, so my buddy made me a 20’ extension (dogbone). Followed the instructions and turned all breakers off in my house, connected and fired up the truck in gen mode, and flipped breakers back on.

Here’s a few photos of the setup. Turned on as many lights in the house and ran the blower on the furnace (A/C is on a 50-amp breaker so didn’t test it).

Overall I’m really happy with how well it worked. The product is definitely expensive but it’s incredibly easy to work with.

Thanks for reporting back! Great info! I understand this setup will only work with a dogbone, but I still don’t know what the heck that is? Google search shows lots of different options for a dogbone, but what does PB require?

@HammaMan can explain better than I can.

But, in layman’s terms, you have to interrupt the ground wire between the plug and the Generlink or the truck will throw a ground fault. You can do this with a short plug to plug dogbone where the ground isn’t connect to the plug on one end or another. (I just used a 20’ one because I needed the length).

thats why i use it for the portable
generlink includes the cable already built when you order it
they just want to know which generator of plug on the genny end
and if you want to buy a longer cord than the base 35 or 40 foot cord

I wasn’t directly involved in the ordering of mine (got it through an electrician friend who had a vendor that owed him a favor) so I got a short cable and had to get an extension.
