I did the exact hvac swap first the digital displays.
Every manual update took with exception the hvac. Still showes update available. Tried it twice with fdrs.
I think I remember doing a pmi on. The swap. You said you did a configuration. Did you mean you did the pmi? I do remember having to read the old unit then it went to programing the new one.
I'm just learning about the pmi stuff. I had to replace my CMR and I was told by Jesse that I needed to pmi it before I installed it.
There was a choice that asked if I still had the original. I said no because it was dead dead. So I learned from rugdraw that a pmi when you don't have the original will install the updates as well. That went smooth and my cmr is current.
I then had corrupt data on my ipma because of the cmr. I was getting no database errors from ford and I couldn't do any camera calibrations. I ended up having to do a pmi on that also. Those errors went away.

My hvac works and no soft codes also but the fact that it won't update bothers me.
I still have the original but I might do another pmi but say no to the question about having the original. That way I'm sure to get as built data from servers.
I was on my third 50.00 license and don't want to buy another one just to clear out the update notification.
Maybe since you have to purchase a license you could pmi the new hvac head unit and say no to the question. It then will be registered to ford as a replacement. I'm sure the ford data base doesn't care that the new one has the digital display. You still have the originals and can just swap it back.

I have a question. How did you get the info that it failed because of mismatch? In fdrs I don't get that extended info. It just doesn't apply the update.
I don't consider myself an expert with this, but having dealt with this same issue with other members, it cannot be done with FDRS. If someone knows something I don't, they can feel free to chime in.
I'm going to be a genie pig. I'm going to use my topdon scanner to do it. My scanner does things even more than fdrs.
I took your advice and didn't use it to pmi my ipma. It will naw at me not knowing if it can pmi these devices. The hvav module is perfect for experimental as I have an extra. Plus my original. I talked to my topdon rep yesterday after your story and warning. He stated with the new vci they haven't had any reports of problems. But if I have a Mongoose why not use it. We have 5 different programmers i our shop and everyone of them require a subscription.
This scanner has replaced 4 of them and the subscription is only 500.00 year. Our autel is nice but it only works on half and having to pay extra for the scope subscription?

I let you know personally if it works. I don't want anyone to get the idea that something cheaper than a Mongoose will work.

I don’t think anyone knows more than you about this stuff. Lol

I put my old module back in to see if it would go ahead and update it and clear that from the OTA system. I told you

I did the new module configuration. It got rid of the soft code. Rugedraw is who told me it failed because of a part number mismatch.
I don’t know anything about the PMI process. This is the first time I’m hearing about it.

I trust rugdraw. He knows his stuff But i am always trying to buck the system. I learn that way I'm going to experiment because I have a stash of these head units and we also bought a new diagnostic tool for our shop. It will be good practice.
I'm starting to remember that when I first put it in and configured it was taking updates. Wasn't until this last update that it stopped updating.
I also lost a cmr module the exact same time as I updated the ipma. Coincidence? Maybe but the cmr is on the same data buss as the ipma.
There is also a guy that goes by the name jesseinfotainment that helps a ton. He can remote in to your truck and fix some nasty gremlins. If he says something is dead then it dead.

One thing I gathered from your OP is I think you said because the hvac won't update your not getting any other updates?

It seems that way. Because I was receiving updates very often until it failed and now all of a sudden for nearly 2 months Ive received nothing. It just shows me where that update failed when I go to software updates in the head unit.

I had an update download last month. I also had the digital hvac installed. My truck wasn't in the right condition to apply the update and it timed out. I got impatient and asked rugdraw to look at my vin. I had twenty different updates pending. So I decided to do them. I should have left things alone. Truck was perfect as was. I opened up a can of worms. Three 50 dollar fdrs license and a 280.00 cmr later and I still can't do the 360 degree and lane keeping calibrations.
I think I have figured it out now. I just have to get time when the sun is out. I've learned so much these last few days.

Defnitely not the case. I learned everything I know on this forum. I just have access to stuff most people don't have access to.

It seems that way. Because I was receiving updates very often until it failed and now all of a sudden for nearly 2 months Ive received nothing. It just shows me where that update failed when I go to software updates in the head unit.
That failed update is not preventing other updates from being sent to you. That much I can tell you for sure.

It’s an email so you’ll have to PM me your email address.
Hi @DK4 and @Jesse-Infotainment ... say I just put in my new heated steering wheel in my 23' Tremor and replaced my SCCM & HVAC module (to the newer module w display & HSW button). Loaded all my existing as builts in to FORScan (v2.3.65)and wrote to the modules. Everything seems to be working as expected (although it doesn't seem to be heating quite as warm as I'd expect) but now I also have the HVAC: U2024: 51-0A DTC being thrown. My version of forscan does not allow me to do anything w firmware/ can you assist me in getting this error cleared or module updated properly if that's what I need to do? It would be much appreciated!!
