I did the exact hvac swap first the digital displays.
Every manual update took with exception the hvac. Still showes update available. Tried it twice with fdrs.
I think I remember doing a pmi on. The swap. You said you did a configuration. Did you mean you did the pmi? I do remember having to read the old unit then it went to programing the new one.
I'm just learning about the pmi stuff. I had to replace my CMR and I was told by Jesse that I needed to pmi it before I installed it.
There was a choice that asked if I still had the original. I said no because it was dead dead. So I learned from rugdraw that a pmi when you don't have the original will install the updates as well. That went smooth and my cmr is current.
I then had corrupt data on my ipma because of the cmr. I was getting no database errors from ford and I couldn't do any camera calibrations. I ended up having to do a pmi on that also. Those errors went away.
My hvac works and no soft codes also but the fact that it won't update bothers me.
I still have the original but I might do another pmi but say no to the question about having the original. That way I'm sure to get as built data from servers.
I was on my third 50.00 license and don't want to buy another one just to clear out the update notification.
Maybe since you have to purchase a license you could pmi the new hvac head unit and say no to the question. It then will be registered to ford as a replacement. I'm sure the ford data base doesn't care that the new one has the digital display. You still have the originals and can just swap it back.
I have a question. How did you get the info that it failed because of mismatch? In fdrs I don't get that extended info. It just doesn't apply the update.
I took your advice and didn't use it to pmi my ipma. It will naw at me not knowing if it can pmi these devices. The hvav module is perfect for experimental as I have an extra. Plus my original. I talked to my topdon rep yesterday after your story and warning. He stated with the new vci they haven't had any reports of problems. But if I have a Mongoose why not use it. We have 5 different programmers i our shop and everyone of them require a subscription.
This scanner has replaced 4 of them and the subscription is only 500.00 year. Our autel is nice but it only works on half and having to pay extra for the scope subscription?
I let you know personally if it works. I don't want anyone to get the idea that something cheaper than a Mongoose will work.

I'm going to be a genie pig. I'm going to use my topdon scanner to do it. My scanner does things even more than fdrs.I don't consider myself an expert with this, but having dealt with this same issue with other members, it cannot be done with FDRS. If someone knows something I don't, they can feel free to chime in.
