First time I haven't felt safe with lane centering.

I use it way more often then not. 80%? Maybe more?

March is a windy month here and we've had our share lately.

The other day, it didn't feel right. More than ping ponging, I see some complain of (which mine doesn't) it was jerky ... Erratic. Never left the lane but hard to trust, so I canceled it for the rest of the trip.

The truck is clean, so the sensors and cameras were ok.

Wondered if a new update messed things up but according to Ford's site, nothing in the last 90 days and FordPass confirms the last as being in Dec.

So, just kinda tossing it out there, that if you're in heavy, multi directional gusty winds, you may experience less than optimal performance from it.

Calmer today and I have an errand to run. If its still acting up, I'll let ya know.

It could be from faded lines, keep your hands on the wheel.
It was a trip I make regularly, will make again today and do keep hands on wheel.

It normally does such a good job, that it thinks I have let go, when I haven't. In other words, it is doing what I would do, so it feels no resistance from me.

It wasn't always that way. Like mpg, it seems to need break in time.

I don’t use lane centering anymore. I don’t like feeling like a dodgeball. I do like BlueCruise, it’s just only available near the cities.

With my older trucks it was fantastic. During the blue cruise trial with my 24' it would jerk left. Dealership said it was a known issue. Drove me nuts. After the trial it was much better, but still not as good as my 23'. I stopped using it.

Lane centering on mine goes a bit too far left and too tightly hugs the center line. Rarely use it.

The latest BC stack that's a few months old drives differently. My understanding is that they were essentially trying to do jerk smoothing in the PSCM but made the IPMA less retarded and gave it more control taking it from the PSCM. The new BBC logic requires both PSCM and IPMA updates to fully work. That said it's still not perfect. I get a line touch about every 80 miles or so depending on the road. I don't think it likes a lot of super elevation.

Must have been over reacting to the gusty wind. The same trip today was fine.

Interesting. I never got the chance to use Blue Cruise during my trial but I have played around with the lane centering and adaptive cruise control and found them to work very well. I don't use lane keeping assist when cruise control is off though.

In my 21, it has always stayed closer to the right line than the left line when attempting to center. It has never ping ponged, just hugged the right line, so I don't use it when any traffic is close. It makes it worse now that they enabled it by default when cruise is enabled which makes it dangerous when towing having to quickly disable it or when wanting to use cruise on small two lane roads. In our 25 explorer, during the 90 days BC trial, it was dialed in clean to center. With BC now inactive, when setting cruise, lane centering/keeping does not enable by default when cruise is turned on. Hope they don't change it to be enabled by default like the truck, but I'm sure they'll end up pissing me off and changing it. I have sent feedback via the center stack and asked for a menu option for the enable/disable by default for the truck, but that was last year after they did the change. They either don't listen, don't care, or whatever.

When new, mine did seem uncomfortably close to the right line on 2 lane roads but its a lot better now. Always worked well on highways. Sometimes a little twitchy along side entrance and exit lanes but it doesn't take long to know what to expect from the system.

Since I ordered mine without BC, maybe that makes a difference in ultimate performance? A simpler system, with less processing to do?

Its been so long since I've dug around in the settings, I've no idea of changes re default or not and since mine performs well and I use it, at least some part of each drive, no reason to look.

I haven't towed in a while either, so no idea if it is enabled in tow haul now or not. Lane Keeping used to be but Lane Centering, wasn't available in Tow Haul.

If they bothered me in the slightest, I'd be trying to disable them but they don't so, I find them useful, or at least not a pain.

Not that I want to make a big deal out of this (far as I know I'm perfectly fine) but none of us gets out of here alive and if hit with a heart attack, or stroke or whatever while behind the wheel, it could be disastrous for others than just you.

So, so long as it functions well, I'm glad of all the safety stuff and have it all enabled on my truck.

The intelligent adaptive cruise, pretty well cuts the risk of rear ending someone to zero and the accident avoidance system, did buy me time once, when the truck recognized a piece of road debris before I did. A white piece of siding, flipped up from behind a white car in front of me. I was towing the camper, in traffic so, every second mattered.

I use all the gadgets and kind of marvel at them, at how well they work.

If you turn off lane keeping, the blue cruise doesn't kick in. Mine does the same as yours hanging too close to the right line, so I turn it off in close traffic. I'm still getting used to it. It's kinds like riding with my kids when they're learning to drive.

Hello
My experience with lane centering is not what I expected. BlueCruise works perfectly keeping within the lane and such but lane centering never worked well for me. My wives Genisis works perfectly and I thought it was just that Ford hasn’t perfected it. Now I read from you all that it should work well, huummm. What’s up with mine? It is erratic it will pull me back but way too far that I have to correct or it just lets my truck just drift off the road.

Thank you and I’ll keep following this thread. Possibly I can find out my problem with it. Oh, it’s a 24 KR.

Thank you
