ECU module programming guide using FDRS

I know that I'm supposed to be patient, but that isn't something that I'm known for.

Has anyone tried this method? I saw the TSB online, looks fairly straightforward and I actually already have all the required cables.


I might give it a try later today if I have some free time.

The problem is that if this fails (which it does quite often from what I hear), the APIM will get locked and has to be replaced. No one has ever failed by just leaving the USB drive in the truck and driving around. I think the longest documented wait is about 3 weeks.

You wouldn’t be able to do it the way the guy did it in the YouTube video even if you wanted to. Ford removed the tool from FDRS.

I don't know if anyone that methot actually worked for. There were probably more bricked apim's than were saved. Leaving the stick in always worked.

Did the IPC update and it took 4 hours, but seems to have gone fine. TCU next.

Ok, I am up to 23291 on the Sync updates.

I have run into a few issues for the first time so need some advice here. All that show right now are IPMA, BCM, and ACM.

With IPMA, I get the message shown that it recommends VCM3 or VCMM device...will I have a problem using the Mongoose to do this or no?

With BCM, I get the error message shown about needing NASTF username and password. What do I do here?

And with ACM, I was able to run it, but when it gets back to the main screen, it's still there and shows as "Run". I tried to run it a couple of times but it doesn't go away. I'm assuming if it went through and there was just another update it would say "Download" instead of "Run"?

Oh, and my backup camera works when I am in reverse, but in park, nothing happens when I push the camera button on the dash now. It used to pull up my rear camera (and I couldn't use it when driving).

ACM you can ignore and the BCM you cannot do. IPMA is fine to update with the Mongoose. It'll take almost 3 hours, but it's fine to do.

The camera is most likely a config issue that needs to be fixed with forscan. I'll look into that for you tomorrow.

2021 F150 limited, truck was in a side hit accident, no airbags went off or crazy damage, more just body damage. Anyways, this error popped up after the accident, solution would be to replace the steering wheel with the SECM module in it, but what actually fails internally and causes this error? Heated steering also doesnt work because of it, looked at wiring diagram, heated steering is connected directly to this module. This truck was in an accident before and I've replaced the SECM once before and now that it got in another accident, it failed again from that.

Only took 11 hours (13 if you count the time fighting with current and old versions of FDRS to get it to login) including 30 minutes of a break to go and pick up a large enough USB drive to get my job 1 2021 fully updated (sans BCM).

[RESOLVED] "GetVehicleNodeInfo" Error
I just ran the IPMA/PSCM multi module update on my truck. The IPMA completed successfully, and the PSCM failed to update following the IPMA. I have attempted to run the PSCM individually, and with a PMI, which both fail to start and run.

I resolved this issue by running the "PSCM communication error" repair tool in the FDRS toolbox. After running this i was able to successfully install the PSCM update.

I was in step 3 of 4 of the IPMA long update, and about then our home internet went down for a while. I don't know if that would have caused the issue, but when I came back to the truck after fixing the internet access there was a message saying the update had failed, do I want to retry or no? I said no. I restarted the software and when it opened I got the photo with all the orange modules. I tried running the update again and got the other photo with the "Exceptions getting MDX" alert. My only option given was to stop the update.

I started the truck and I get several errors on the instrument cluster scene: Check Park Aid, Blind spot System fault, Cross traffic system fault, pre-collision assist not available, front camera fault service required. When I put it in reverse, no backup camera...screen goes black and an error message pops up after a few seconds saying backup camera not available.

Sure hope this is fixable. Yikes.

Yes, it is fixable. It could just be some back-end issues due to server maintenance (which happens on Sunday quite frequently), or it may need a little help from a guru. Don't panic; try again in a few hours; if it needs an intervention, someone will let you know.

Nice little Sunday doing some updates on the couple day old new rig. Had quite a few to get knocked out since its a 24 and has been sitting for a while. No issues so far especially considering I didn't even decide to update FDRS and get a license until late this afternoon on a Sunday. Just working through the ping pong back and forth between GWM and TCU updates but will save those until tomorrow. No new BC 1.4 IPMA software for it looks like yet but just fine by me, then I don't have to worry about the new seat belt on to lane center nanny.
