ECU module programming guide using FDRS

I just updated my APIM and got the configuration failure. DO I need to return my APIM to as-built with FORScan to get it to configure correctly? I did it via the canbus, did not see another option.

Purple you'd probably need to run PMI which will take forever. You have to pick a specific option when doing that and I can't remember which one.

That is what my notes say for latest. Congratulations you are one of the lucky ones with all the updates unlocked so you were able to fully update.

If you have been doing everything in FDRS and run into weird issues with APIM and/or audio then try a full system reset on sync screen. A few reported weird bugs last couple months after mass updates and said it went away after doing that. You'll have to add the truck again in FordPass etc.

That's the latest APIM software for our trucks. If a module config fails after an update and the update is no longer showing, then click the module on the left side of the screen in FDRS and it will open up all the guided routines for that module. Look for one called "module configuration" and run that. It will load the config only.

How is that done? It might lower the pucker factor on my attempt to update a 21 PB APIM that's stuck. USB updates crash because FDRS says they're not the right version. I'm getting frustrated and looking for a bigger hammer.

I believe that is case, the video they refer to on YouTube is doing the TSB.

Seems more have success lately just leaving the USB in for 2-3 weeks. ?‍

I found the Big Heavy's YouTube channel before this forum and the only thing I missed was not connecting the black side of my charger to the terminal. Using FDRS and the Mongoose cable I was able to get quite a few updates completed except of course the APIM one. Has anyone else encountered this error condition - it pulls down the new code, writes it to the USB, the truck reads the USB successfully and writes the update, then fails on the verification step because the part numbers (software versions) don't match. Not sure how to move forward from here.

<edit> thought I should add that (being an IT guy), I disconnected from FDRS, deleted the files from the USB drive, reconnected and rescanned current state, then let download the updates again, just to make sure it was pulling the correct version for my VIN. Verified the filename matches the truck's VIN, got the same result.

Are you sure the USB is installing?

If you are on the stuck version trying that TSB many have reported USB being successful only after several weeks of leaving it plugged into truck.

Sync screen version is still null. So I realized yesterday after going back over that video that I skipped running the update repair package on the "multimodule" tab in FDRS, instead going straight to the "software updates" tab expecting to get it done from there. My mistake.

I've ordered the USB/ethernet adapters needed and am going to renew the FDRS license tomorrow.

Sounds like you are in worse state than the others that were able to wait forever and have USB finally install. Just be aware you have limited timeframe and chances at trying to do it with cables. Nothing to lose by trying though if USB won't install.

I know we've spoken about your issue before, but I don't think I've run your VIN through PTS. Did you buy the truck used or are you the original owner? If you bought it used and the previous owner has the APIM replaced, it is possible that the new APIM was not programmed correctly and everything you have attempted and will attempt will fail. Send me your VIN so I can poke around and see if I see anything that stands out.

Bought it used but reviewed its history through FDRS and saw no indication of APIM updates or changes. The only software update entry was a trailer towing module that I assume some dealer was confident in doing, being fairly innocuous. The good news is that it had regular oil changes for the first 3 years.

His case just seems to be a stubborn case of the infamous 20301 blues. Some of these succumb to FDRS quicker than others and some do not respond to FDRS at all.

Just purchased a 2021 limited and got through most of the updates via FDRS/Mongoose. I have one last update that I can't get past - BCM module. When I run it I get the logon screen for NASTF. I registered for a free account to no avail. Any tips to get this applied?
