The dealer did not update the APIM as they claimed. I can see the failed attempts and PTS shows the Sync version is still the broken 20301 software.

If FDRS is allowing you to make the USB update, all you can do is leave it in the turck and go on about your business until the update decides to go through. It can take longer than a few weeks for this to happen based on the experiences of others that been successful doing what you are trying to do. It is important to know that this does not always work. Based on the several attempts that have been made to update the APIM, that APIM may be locked now and un-update-able.
There are fellas that it took longer than 3 weeks.
I'm an optimist. It's going to suddenly just kick off and your APIM will escape Purgatory. ?
Lol, mine took 4 weeks! I was ready to give up. Then one night driving home from work I stopped at a red light, looked over at the screen and BOOM ! It said update installed.
You guys are not going to believe this! The USB update kicked off this evening on my drive home from work. Was able to successfully complete it, and I can see Sync 21146 rev 145 on my screen now. Will do the rest of the updates on the weekend.

Maybe it just needed the gen 14 blessing :)

It's gotta be the drive home from work that does it! ? ?
That's when money kicked off back in 2022 as well.
Now you can license up with FDRS and finish the mission. Good luck.

I don't know why you think I wouldn't believe it. ???

I've been a believer since BigDogDaddy's kicked off. I had watched his battle and the tomfoolery of the dealership. I might have been almost as happy as he was when it fired off finally.

That was a long time ago. And I've seen it work many times since. I honestly don't know why anyone would conclude it doesn't work. ?

That would make around half dozen escaping purgatory this year with USB.
Seems that Ford throwing APIM at the problem might not have been necessary. ?
Or did they change what FDRS is creating so it is easier to install? ?‍♂

When I fire up FDRS next, would it know what version of APIM I’m on? Especially since I wasn’t able to complete the last step of the USB update process, which is inserting the USB back into the laptop and letting FDRS read it?

If it's already closed out simply re-running the network scan may already show it as being updated when it reads the software.

According to Jesse, it's still the same crap.
The lockdown of FDRS has increased the complaints about parts not programming / delayed vehicle returns to customers. Really surprised ford's done what the've done on the programming front of similar parts / strict part # adherence. It'd be one thing if all parts were available at all times, that's just not the case though.

Just as @HammaMan says FDRS will show you the next APIM update.

@dontbeasquare It most likely won't show an APIM update. It will show a TCU or GWM and once you do that, one it will release another TCU/GWM/APIM update. And once you do that one, it will release another one and so on. Eventually, it will release an IPC update, too. These module updates have to be installed in a certain sequence, so they get released as the update that precedes it gets applied. All of these will be USB updates.

Once you start, if you see that you get to Sync 23159 and no more updates pop up, message me to see if the resident guru is able to get you updated all the way through.

Yep, the network scan pulls software version off everything then figures out what you need. FDRS is really idiot proof and you have to try hard to break a vehicle.

I don't know if you've used Forscan but I always backup my asbuilt data when using FDRS. Rare but some updates will break the asbuilt. Maybe I'm just paranoid though, it hasn't happened to me yet. ?‍♂

Which version of FDRS is everyone currently using? I bought a 2 day activation key, but cant seem to get logged in. I feel like this happens to me ever year when I do this.. and I waste more time trying to get logged in and all more than updating my vehicles. :( Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was using FDRS 41.5.2 today and it worked well. Make sure you use the non-dealer/independent option while logging in.

Just wanted to say a sincere thanks to the folks here, especially @rugedraw for helping me on my update journey. My stuck APIM went from 20301 -> 21146 -> 22087 -> 22293 -> 23159 -> 23167 -> 23291. Based on the TCU update after the last APIM update, I reckon my truck is sitting at 6.4.0, which is pretty good for a Job 1 XLT. I'll leave the rest of it to the OTA gods.

It's nice to finally have a fully functional truck! Also noticed that for the 1st time ever, all my modules on FDRS were green.

That is great!
Welcome to the FDRS club. ?

My 21 was stuck due to IPC issues that would fail every OTA attempt. This was resolved by Ford last year (somehow) and my first ever IPC update OTA installed in December.

Whatever was holding your truck back should be fixed and you get all the benefits of features added in 2022. :)
