Thanks everyone for all the posts and insight.

I finally broke down and got a mongoose cable and a fdrs license. It started out bumpy with fdrs crashing continually on my work windows laptop, even with trying an older version as mentioned recently. I ended up installing it on my Mac running bootcamp and windows. I did have one hiccup where it didn’t work initially but recalled a post saying to uninstall and reinstall. That fixed it.

After the software and pc issues were resolved, I was able to get 11 updates installed with no issues. It did take a few hours of course with that darn IPMA update to do.

Now to tackle the wife’s escape with just as many updates needed.

Good luck with your updates everyone. I’ll be trying to keep up and be ready for my next round.

As someone mentioned recently, it would be nice to be able to cross reference the updates with the Power Up OTA list, but I feel better just getting all those updates done.

You can guesstimate mostly off APIM versions. The updates in between are needed to go to next APIM. I started off with a version not on any list online when my truck was stuck a year ago. Updated to other versions on the way not in any list either.
There are updates on FDRS now not released OTA yet so can't match those up yet. Others have reported getting updates OTA that they can't see in FDRS.

Finally complete with updates! Took me 2x weekends (i.e. 2x licenses) to complete, but I think I'm fully up to date on a 2022 truck that had zero updates to this point.
Final SYNC version: 23291_PRODUCT Revision : 1049
Mistakes made along the way are below. All of these issues are documented in other posts, but re-posting here for others to learn from:
-My "modern" Windows 11 laptop would never work to connect to Ford and login. Tried older computers, one of them with Win 10, and they both worked with FDRS version 37.4.7 - would never connect with the current version (39).
-Tried to use an old 10A battery charger as the power supply - did NOT work. It couldn't hold the voltage high enough and caused the IPMA updates to fail. Fix: Purchased the charger/power supply suggested in OP, and that worked very well.
-The USB stick's volume name caused the USB updates to fail. Fix: Renamed the USB stick to "sync", and no more issues.
-My APIM update problems this weekend were my own fault, not Ford server issues. The issue was just that my old computer's hard drive did not have enough space left! Some of the downloads were in the multiple gigabytes. If FDRS looks like it gets to 100% download of a file, but then fails with a "cannot retrieve binary file", check to make sure your hard drive is not filled up.

Thanks to all of those offering your help and experience. I'm hopeful that the OTA updates might start working from this point forward - fingers crossed.

Hi @Jesse-Infotainment
Any speed benefit with using an Ethernet j2534 adapter vs mongoose?

The convenience of Ethernet is great, curious if it had any other benefits. Thx

I use ethernet with the VCM 3.. I do not know if any other Ethernet adapter would work.. I use it more for convenience than the speed.. it is faster to the VCM but the speed from VCM to vehicle is same

So, SurfacePro 7 with W11 is a NoGo?

I don't think anyone can declare that the Surface 7 with 11 is incompatible. I would bet there are some with that spec that have FDRS working fine.

I have Surface Laptop 5 (current version hardware) with 11-pro and FDRS is functional.

My Surface Pro 6 and W11 works just fine as well. Biggest issue is only one USB port, but it isn't the end of the world even if you don't have a USB hub to get more ports.

Ford tried to send me the 23-PU1009-SS-NS PCM update today, but fortunately it failed. For anyone with a Livernois tune: They do not have this on their database yet and me sending them the files doesn't help them. The only way they can update the strategy change in their tune is when someone uploads it to their server using the tuner. Who knows how long it will be before they get it added.

Yes, to be clear, I don't think there is anything inherent in the updated Windows or anything that is keeping FDRS from working. It's probably something more subtle specifically with my machine. I actually suspect if I fully factory reset my Surface Book 2 (Windows 11) back to a fresh image, it would probably work fine.

I ended up having to do a fresh windows install a few weeks ago to get fdrs to work. I was cleaning out stuff to make room and ended up messing something up at some point.
