You are 127 hours short of sitting in the truck with a laptop before I feel your pain. ???

Just kidding.

Welcome to the FDRS world.
Man you catch on fast!
My last go around with updates I finally just took my iPad and did a FaceTime call between it and my phone with the iPad pointed at the computer screen. That way I could monitor it and still get other stuff done.

Clever.
I've been tempted to use my "Go To Assist" corporate remote support solution for running/monitoring the FDRS laptop remotely, but I end up doing the same thing sitting in the truck as I would be doing sitting in the Lazyboy. Reading the forum, checking the corporate IT feed, and/or reading/listening to a book.

Maybe it would be different if the glorious Land Yacht wasn't such a nice cockpit to be in?

I thought about doing the same thing with spacedesk but it gets weird when trying to control on an iPad. I agree the land yacht is comfy but I had to work that day and I’d rather use my 50” monitor for that over the tiny laptop they gave me.

@Skier167 LOL! I’d rather use my 50” monitor for that over the tiny laptop. Really? what has auto tech come to, are you doing that while sitting in a big old Lazy boy recliner. ? ?
?? the 50” monitor is for my work computer. Im in a lazy boy office chair if that counts ?

I use Remote Desktop to the console session. Another option would be temporarily moving a home security camera. Many ways to skin a cat.

Just curious if anyone has came across or used this yet? Not that I'm promoting 3rd party and/or "hacked" accounts, but $400 for 12 months of basic FDRS is awfully enticing...

There's a few variants of this. It's a cat and mouse game of ford invalidating the keys they hand out. It results in a monthly key change remote-in from whoever sold it.

The price for one's own vehicle should be free since ford still hasn't gotten OTA figured out yet, plus when they brick the car with an OTA, FDRS can be used to rectify their error. The VCM / mongoose cost is already a sufficient barrier to entry that they don't need to be milking customers for more $$$.

I have mentioned several times that the co$t for ante-ing up to the self-service table might initially seem high, and certainly an injustice. But after a couple of successful sessions, it stings far less and just becomes yet another tool in the tool chest for someone that likes to take care of his own things.

But recently, after acquiring a second vehicle that rides the same OTA/FDRS wave, it now seems like a downright bargain!

Add to that, having the tools AND access to the guru(s) here that can solve issues that Ford/Dealerships haven't a clue?

Priceless :)

A question about the file structure for a USB APIM update.......

It's been awhile since I did one with FDRS, so I can't remember the file structure on the USB stick itself.

Are the files themselves in the root directory of the USB stick? Or are they nested in a subfolder? If in a subfolder, can someone share the name of the subfolder?

Same question for the manifest file. (I believe it has the file extension "der")
Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but manifest.der is at the root of the usb drive. The rest of the files on in a subdirectory named FordSoftwareUpdates.
