I know there has been tons of talk on here about USB sticks. I've done dozens on my truck and my MachE with no issue. I have another forum member here today and we can't get USB to kick off at all. It's the exact same stick I've used on my truck and mach e formatted MBR/EXFAT, named FDRS. I've also tried 3 other thumb drives. None of the USB updates will kick off. The drive is recognized and indexed, but update never starts. We did GWM via canbus, but APIM doesn't have that option. Any suggestions on what would make a specific truck stubborn?
I broke down and hit up Jesse. He had me navigate to the software update screen, which was spinning continuously and never would say "no updates" or anything else. This was a key that the GWM was locked up. We tried a reboot from forscan, but that did not help. He had us disconnect both (Powerboost) 12v batteries for 20 minutes. After hooking up the batteries the software update screen was active and the USB updated kicked off in less than 2 minutes.

Thanks Jesse!!

Edit: I've read every post in this thread, but at 900+ pages I can't remember it all. I'm not sure if this is new information or not.

The ole unplugging it and plugging it back in trick.
Thank God these trucks don't have glued in batteries where you just have to let it die completely for a reboot!

Yes. Took two hours to download 6 gigs from Ford's 3rd world country servers. I just don't get it. lol
They can't afford a fiber connection due to all the broken trucks they have to keep dumping money into instead.

I don't. Not sure how to even do that, tbh. If I see the download is going to take long, I just pack another bowl and pour another drink and just wait it out. Fortunately with the APIM, I can just leave the truck running so I'm not dying in this sofla humidity.
Trying to update a truck in south Texas is risking heat stroke in the summer so I wait until winter so my beer stays cold also while sitting around watching the progress screen.

We are doing it in Houston today. Laptop is in the truck with the camera pointed towards the sync screen. We are sitting inside watching it over chrome remote desktop

My computer was getting way to hot the one time I tried doing updates in the summer so I had to put a big fan inside the truck to try and help. I decided a computer shutting down mid flash due to being too hot was not worth the trouble and wait for temperatures under 80 degrees now.

I just updated to the latest GWM, after the install it failed on the Module configuration.
Everything seems fine no errors, but I am not sure if I should PMI the GWM?
Any info would be appreciated.

If there are no errors, I think you should be fine. If in doubt, run the GWM config routine instead of the PMI. That will be much faster as all it does it write the configuration instead of reflashing all the files via CAN which can take a while.

I got another phantom update alert again today. I checked to make sure and truck shows SS-NS update. It made me wonder if, because this update is showing incomplete, this is stopping any updates untill completed. The reason it is incomplete is I had updated my truck with FDRS back in April and the next day this OTA happened. Is there any way I can do to clear this or just wait?

That's not affecting OTA's. No way to clear it that I know of. Once you get sent another OTA, it will go away.

I swear I fully updated both the truck and the car just a few days ago. (I'm old, so I'm sure it could be a couple of months and still seem like last week)

I only licensed up because the mention of an APIM build actually compiled in 2024! I was begining to think we'd go a whole year without a build.

Anyways, I never ask Rugedraw to check my VIN. I just watch his relentless posts for all the other folks and then read between the lines. Still, I figured I'd have maybe a couple available for each vehicle.

Lo and behold

One thing for sure is Ford shows no sign of slowing down on supporting further refinements to these vehicles. Of course OTA is a lousy delivery method if you want to keep up with the updates made available.
