The best reason I started using it, was due to backing up my Wave runner on that tinny trailer, If you take your hand off the knob it will just backs up straight which is awesome.
you will need to replace the 4 pin, I think there is a kit. That has the 7 pin and the new 12 pin that supports the Yaw sensor, trailer TPMS and trailer camera.

I just updated to the latest GWM, after the install it failed on the Module configuration.

Based on fords documentation the 53A package that you and the OP didn't get is 3 things.
Brake controller.
Led Tail lights.
Trailer Backup assist.
The only thing holding you back from towing more than 7,000 pounds is being able to stop that load.
Based on The ford towing Calculator the OP's truck has GCWR of 16,800 pounds.
