I got the new APIM update installed today along with an ABS and a GWM update. I'm currently on SYNC version 23167_PRODUCT Revision 926. I was really hoping that this would fix the issues that developed right after my last APIM update, but I got my first audio glitch before I even made it out of my driveway.

Is there anything else I should try to "fix" my APIM before my FDRS subscription runs out, or did I just waste $53? I have no codes stored in my APIM but I've had multiple issues for months, such as bluetooth calls dropping, loud audio glitches, random freezing and rebooting of my 12" screen, and my backup camera stuttering, freezing, or failing to turn on.

Lots of reports that in dark mode the APIM is more stable with Bluetooth and cameras.

I know, it sounds crazy.

Maybe I missed this ... but has anyone else experienced a change in shifter behavior when in drive and opening the door?
Admittedly I've not tried this in a while, but used to ... with transmission in drive, stopped, and opened the door, the shifter would move itself to park.
Today, I noticed the transmission stayed in Drive, but the parking brake came on holding the vehicle in place.
Not sure when it happened ... possibly the ABS update I did in August.
Just thought it was interesting.
Pretty sure this was a PCM update that did it for mine.

Thank you for making this suggestion, I tried this on the previous APIM software and it didn't seem to help much, but after trying it again on the new APIM software I am seeing a noticeable improvement.

It definitely isn't fixed, but the long audio glitches are short blips now, and my screen hasn't completely frozen in the past 2 days. I still wouldn't take my truck on a long trip in its current condition, but this does make daily commute less aggravating.

I'm not sure if I should just replace my APIM in an attempt to fix this or if I should just keep waiting for Ford to fix the issue they created with software. I've seen some reports of similar issues being fixed by replacing the APIM, but I really don't want to spend $705 on a new one when I can't be confident that it will fix anything. My issue started right after an APIM software update, and I'm inclined to believe that the software is the entire issue.

The software is far from perfect, still hoping for better in future updates. I get audio pops with backup camera and with text messages as it starts to play the notification sound. It's annoying but considering it a feature at this point.

Some folks have zero issues with phone connectivity, reverse camera bugs, Bluetooth calling........

There has to be some differences in software/hardware that aren't discernable?

I'd be interested to know the part numbers of the APIMs in trucks that are and aren't having issues. According to parts.ford.com, there are 3 different APIMs that "fit" my VIN even though only one matches my build date. I wonder if the issue is only present with a specific hardware combination, and if switching to a different APIM part number is the solution.

I would have to physically check the APIM in my truck to confirm, but I believe my stock APIM is a MU5Z-14G371-PNN.

MU5Z-14G371-PNN is listed as fitting:
01/20/2021 - 07/22/2021, F150, (+)"USA", Dual Zone Auto Temp Control A/C, Dearborn Plant Build, Multi Function Display - 12", Sync IV

The other two options I see that don't match my build date are MU5Z-14G371-G and MU5Z-14G371-R

My guess would be more than one supplier with slight variance in hardware.

I also expect the issues are not all within the APIM itself but the modules it is connected to, and that can also have hardware variations.

Many of us seem to get the pop when reverse camera activates. Getting a pop on text messages is new. Listening to HD radio when it happened today.

No.. Ford is doing some whacky stuff right now.

22s have a Gateway update. Well now a second one.

21s have an APIM update but this update replaces CM and CY but some 21,22, and 23s saw CY already so this update may migrate soon.


23 Power Boost have a gateway update that adds 1.3 ability

As of now that is what I have seen.
Are there release notes for these updates or is this based on your observation?
I've been having issues with my screen not booting up, freezing, restarting and curious if its worth it for me to buy a Mongoose/FDRS and see what I can update vs waiting on an OTA.

I've been having issues with my screen not booting up, freezing, restarting and curious if its worth it for me to buy a Mongoose/FDRS and see what I can update vs waiting on an OTA.
Some that got APIM OTAs have had bad installs.

I continue to always install APIM updates manually. The size of them seems to always be the issue. the APIM updates are 1-16gb. Ive seen the recent one that was 1GB have incomplete install.

What the incomplete install means is there are multiple Files. If the complete file structure isnt installed you can have issues with Nav and or display. It will also cause a issue that is self perpetuating. Meaning that once you have a incomplete install the status of your APIM updates on Fords side and if its is a screwed up Fords servers will pull all software for that module. Its self perpetuating because then there is nothing the dealer can do or Ford can do to resolve it. I have to help you fix it get it corrected then wait for it to resync in fords end to allow future updates.

I have helps countless people fix these issues over the time I have been a member and Ford needs to get this corrected because it will be a issue forever if they dont. All Fords are going to the newer sync system and will have the same issues.

SO if you are having this issue and had an OTA recently send me your vin so I can see if the update was complete or not. Even the ones that show Successful have not been

Yes. I am talking about lane keeping camera. IPMA module is from this car, but it was tried in other f150, programmed and now returned back to this f150. Now I cannot do PMI or configuration via fdrs
