We had to manually install updates outside of FDRS that took me from having almost no OTAs at all (2.2 was only one received organically) up to what was essentially the 3.5.4 equivalent. The only update since then was the 4.2.1 OTA. I'm not sure if the PU 1010 would have been included in those, but basically the only update actually completed in FDRS was the last TCU one.

Is there a way for me to check and see if I received it/ if I didn't receive it via FDRS and I'm already at the 4.x series, would I still get it OTA at a later date? Thanks in advance!
There are a couple of ways you can check your current PCM software level, but you’ll require some assistance. You can post your VIN on the VIN lookup thread and ask someone to see if you have any PCM updates available in FDRS. Alternatively, you can send your VIN to me, I can pull your as-built data and compare it to mine to see if they’re the same. If they are, you are current. Either will work.

EDIT: I found your VIN on another thread. It looks like your PCM is not up to date. Here is your software data

The current PCM software at F188 for our trucks ends -VGE. You should have a PCM update available in FDRS.

Not really. Once you start it, you can tell you long it will be based on quick or slowly the progress bar moves and how many blocks need to be written.
Good to know. Mongoose has arrived. I was considering running some updates but if I can't tell the timeframe I think I'll wait until Friday evening.

Yea, the license is good for 2 days at a time, so wait until you can take advantage of that time frame to get everything done. The last thing you want to do is reward Ford with another $50 another 2 day pass.

Why is your truck at the shop?

Surely not because of the update.
You've been around here way too long to think that's a good idea. ??

dude, you're telling me. 4.2.2 had some weird failure part way. jesse said it added the main operating system file, and a couple others, then nothing else. i guess it in part checked off successful/dropped off as available, but also shows as failed. the screen/carplay was glitching with overlapping phone text, XM didn't load for days, or nav, constant DTCs in a few places, etc. i didn't want to take it in, but jesse didnt sound too confident that it would be successful at the retry in 2 weeks. ford ota hotline basically said to wait 2 weeks and see what happens. while i would have loved to see it fix itself, i don't want to wait 2 weeks for it to fail. so we'll see what the dealer says.

A partial update is far worse than a failed update. I much rather just live without an OTA than have a butchered update.

Regardless, I don't know what the odds are that a dealership can fix that? Unless something like a PMI would rescue the APIM?
Bet they order an APIM. Hopefully they don't keep your truck for days before deciding to.

i messaged jesse to see if he can check their work today. we both know it wont be touched until 4pm and then they'll need it for more time.

yesterday i plead my case to the lady on the phone and got everything mapped out. showed up today and had to start from square one with her. she, "talks to a lot of people". she tried to change some things we agreed upon on the phone yesterday (covered rental and timeline) and then proceeded to tell me over and over again, "we'll see if it's covered" even after checking that it's still under bumper to bumper. we all know how this is gunna go. fuckin dealerships.

I swear I would DRIVE to Jesse before I let the dealership touch my APIM. Lol

Of course I would probably just ship it to him and pay double his rate just for the principle of him being the rescuer.

Fortunately, I don't need a Dealership loaner.

By the way, I don't necessarily feel the same way about all potential warranty issues that might someday pop up. But the modules themselves? The dealership isn't going to get first crack at it.

yeah, jesse is 50 miles away and i'd be willing to make the trek. we went back and forth on taking it to him vs. taking to dealer, but landed on taking it to dealer...he said that would be best.

Wait.
50?

That's short of a jaunt!

He and the wife would be eating at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse before he touched the APIM, and Eddie V's after he sorted it. ?

You Ft Worth/Dallas folks don't have to worry about dealership shenanigans.

You were worried I would make it worse.

SO I told you to take it in since that was a concern.

yeah that was a concern. you had started with it probably needing a new apim and that the ota retry would likely fail. you said the update files were gone and you'd need to make a custom update and might be able to fix it. i also haven't seen anyone else mention it yet either. didn't feel like it was an open shut case and i don't need anything preventing it from being covered under warranty if it sounded like it might have to go that way anyway. we know they'll look for a reason to deny fixing it. the failure and errors and everything up to this point are nicely documented in their system and it's under warranty, so it's 100% their problem to fix. i just dont want to give them ammo, you know? i apologize if i asked too many questions. i was totally hoping you could help, that's why i was waiting for the onedrive files and sent you the funds until the files disappeared. and being that i corrected the 1.7.4 freeze myself...and now this is a new, different problem in the same system, i thought it might be best to go dealer route. and get it documented. i appreciate the info you did help me with man. we'll see if they make it right and can do it without messing anything else up.
