Good morning,

I check my oil pretty regularly on all of my cars but noticed early on that my ‘22 2.7l always seems to show overfilled. I followed the procedure to get to operating temp then park on flat for 15 minutes before checking. Here is where the level is

is this enough to be concerned with and I should drain some out or not really enough to be a problem?

I wouldn't worry about it. Better to be slightly high than slightly low. If in doubt, see the video below. You will learn what it really means to be "a little too much".

My understanding is between the 2 holes---I would not worry about that very small amount over!

Did you wipe the dipstick first prior to taking the reading? If it only goes to the line that you indicated, I would not worry about it.

It took 4-5 tries and wipes to get an accurate reading like that. Earlier ones made it look like it was above the twist in the dip stick. It was pretty consistent after.

There is a dry spot at the red line I drew so I’m assuming that’s the top…

I had a 2018 STX 2.7L and did my own oil changes and it was always high on stick like your picture. I put in exactly 6 qts. Never had a issue.

That is overfilled.
Overfilled as much worse than underfilled. When the oil level is overfilled as in above that top stamped dot, the crank windage can aerate the oil. This is not something you want.

Personally, I strive to keep it at the top of the hash marks when the engine is cold. When my engine is hot, it will still be below, like an eighth of an inch below that top dimple.

I find it much easier to read if you pull the dipstick out, wipe it clean, and set it aside. Wait five minutes re-insert into the tube pulled out and take your reading.

That is overfilled. STATES so explicitly in the manual. I made my dealer make it right.. *especially when you are paying an EXPERT mechanic rate at the dealership.

I don’t have a way to extract the oil from the top end so I would need to loosen the plug and let a little out. Any ideas how much to let out to start? I made an appointment for tomorrow at the incompetent dealer just in case doing it myself is a bad idea.

Can’t be done with the plug. Maybe the filter??

Not trying to argue, but why can’t it be pulled from a slightly loosened plug?

You can do it with the oil drain plug in a pan. You loosen it up, pulled away for a second put it back in. It’s gonna be a mess. Put some old cardboard on the ground drip pan in place bunch of rags or shop towels.
