I've been ... Studying, might be too strong a word but strong interest maybe, for more than 40 yrs.

Back then, it was a LOT tougher. The easy gains were in insulation, windows, caulking etc. Basic design too but that was never taken up on the whole (thats a whole different story and has to do with orientation, site placement and builder resistance) but now, tech has changed a lot.

New, consumer level solar panels, usually carry a 20-25yr. warranty to an 80% capacity, have significant hail damage resistance, they're just way more efficient and come with blocking and bi-pass diodes, at half or less the cost of prior.

But battery tech is the main thing. You no longer need a separate building, or even room, with special ventilation and none of the maintenance. The good ones, come with at least a 10 yr. warranty and the size is so much smaller. My brother just installed a system at his house, that has 20KW of battery storage, that wouldn't even fill one of the bucket seats of our trucks.

It used to be a rich man's hobby. Now it can easily make economic sense, if you have the right site.

And the price to performance curves will continue to cross. It only gets better from here. Its just that it took a while to get here.
i had "Power Home Solar" here in the Mitten, quote me on solar for the house. 1,00 sqft ranch, on a crawl, no basement.
gas dryer and stove.
was still $62, 000 ...ummm...o_O :ROFLMAO::rolleyes:... yeahhh... that's gonna be a hard NO thank you! lol
literally 2x what i was expecting to hear.
30k it may... may have leveled out over my time left in this house.
i would love it, but its simply not worth 60k

i love the hybrid F150, a larger battery pack, say from 1.5 kw to 10kw... now you're talking serious savings on gas.
Ford needs to put this into every vehicle we sell!

15kWh batt, plus larger motor = $7,500 discount (tax credit) and MOAR POWA!

The PB's motor is 47hp / 70-80ftlb torque. The PHEV explorer / aviator motor is 100hp 220ftlb taking up the same amount of room. They only offer that phev explorer in EU -- not sure why on earth ford didn't offer it here.

The craziest part is that the powerboost's hybrid drivetrain adds the same amount of weight to the ecoboost that the other platform's system does while containing a 14.x kWh batt. on top of it.
They missed an opportunity for a beast of a truck to really bring the whole hybrid thing into reality.

Getting back to the original question, I am really enjoying my PB. I have only used the generator one time, more as a test to figure out how.
On my day to day drives, I am averaging 4 mpg better than my 2017 ecoboost. When in town, it is great to sit in traffic with the cold air blowing away.
I can leave the dogs in the truck while I run inside and the hybrid system keeps them comfortable.
I still get a kick out of driving along at 50 mph and the engine cuts out and cruising along on electric power. I have around 700 electric miles out of 8500 total, so not a great ratio, but that is still a tank of gas.
I was reading another thread where non PB owners have to start their trucks to move them a few feet. I got the PB just for that reason (taking the truck out of the garage when working in the yard).
Most people who ride with me are amazed at the fuel economy and that it is a hybrid.

It is not perfect, but I do not regret buying this power train.

I also love the PB. It has been everything I had imagined. I have a small farm and a house in the mountains. The ability to have electricity on demand at any location is amazing, ability to boon-dock with my TT makes camping a completely new experience for me and my wife ( we go for privacy, not to make “new friends” and socialize).

The truck has been flawless. I wish the cooling capacity was better, so I do not have to micromanage the ECT when towing, but that is the biggest shortcoming I have experienced so far and it is manageable given the other advantages the PB provides. To have a fully adequate cooling system would be the complete package for me.

i totally agree, feel pretty much the same way. i got a new TT in March, the PB makes destinations, virtually unlimited. i get away for privacy too, so now i can go where other campers cannot.
i've also used ito to power my neighbors house duraing power outages this past spring.

I love my powerboost. I love the technology. I love the sync interface.

I hate the fact that I can't get it serviced.
My dealer won't touch it. In fact all three dealerships won't work on it.

I am using a rural Louisiana dealer, closer than East Texas purchase dealer. They say they have trained technicians, but are definitely on the front of the learning curve. Replaced a defective battery for Full Accessory lock, so far so good. Oil change and tire rotation. I did not ask for SSN fix download- I want them to have more experience. They did secure and pad the emergency brake cable.
Experience is coming- 5PB on lot with more on order.

The SSN patch shouldn't be a challenge at this point. I wouldn't think.

I agree unless they are still learning (I don't want to be their first update).
Supposedly, there were no codes that popped up.
I still use 2 step start or remote start 99% of the time.

Bye bye Powerboost. Ram hits it out of the park with this. I'm still very happy with my GMC but if I get bored, this is right at the top of my list. My 2019 Ram Limited 4X4 was a great truck and with the new Tungsten trim I could be all in.
