i'm strictly asking those who do not use powerboost only features (extra towing capacity, onboard generator, etc) frequently like i do. a part of me wish i had just bought the 3.5 ecoboost. less headache to worry about down the road with the hybrid system. more mods available for the ecoboost too. powerboost's mpg seems underwhelmed. anyone in similar boat?
ive used mine 3 times to power my house and my neighbors house durring an outage. I also have used it to power my camper. it allows me to go more places and use campsites with no electrical. Very useful.
not to mention... its fast as hell! lol only the Raptor R is a faster factory F150 ;)

Both you and your neighbor have spent thousands putting in a separate electrical panel?

Just can't resist? ?

Not everyone approaches powering the household "necessities" the same. You don't HAVE to spend thou$ands to keep the lights on and prevent the freezer from thawing.

When someone types "power the house", that means more than a couple of extension cords strung through a door into the house running a refrigerator, a couple of lights and a coffee maker. ;) At least to me.

The handful of times I needed to use the Pro Power during extended outages I ran a few extension cords and was able to power two fridges, a deep freezer, network equipment, and a 77" OLED. Didn't put a dent in the Pro Power

I think you answered your own question in the previous post: some folks want to avoid a fridge full of rotting foot and no creature comforts without spending the money on a transfer switch. Some folks are happy to put in a transfer switch so that they can power everything. The great thing about the Powerboost is that it will easily support either option.

And does it quieter and more efficiently than any generator I've come across. :)

thousands? no. my neighbors had an electrician friend do theres for the cost of the supplies.
I wired my own box in. My entire house panel is wired to my generator, since you rarely ever actually have so many things using power at the same time, you can do it.
IMHO, everyone in a single family home, should, at the very least, own a small generator, so they can plug in their furnace, fridge and some lights....in the worst of times, its worth the cost !
just my humble opinion.

I see you and raise you 1.5kW worth of solar panels (minimum), a 3kW AIO inverter, and 14kWh worth of LFP batts (or 5kWh if you insist on buying pre-made). That's enough for refrigeration, cooking, lighting (LED), and electronic devices for years. Even better if you take it up a notch by installing. The batt and inverter can be mobile if required, roof mounted solar is a little more difficult to move quickly.

being in the automotive industry for 40+ years, i'm a motor-gear head, however... in the LONG run, electricity is the ultimate wy to go.

I've been ... Studying, might be too strong a word but strong interest maybe, for more than 40 yrs.

Back then, it was a LOT tougher. The easy gains were in insulation, windows, caulking etc. Basic design too but that was never taken up on the whole (thats a whole different story and has to do with orientation, site placement and builder resistance) but now, tech has changed a lot.

New, consumer level solar panels, usually carry a 20-25yr. warranty to an 80% capacity, have significant hail damage resistance, they're just way more efficient and come with blocking and bi-pass diodes, at half or less the cost of prior.

But battery tech is the main thing. You no longer need a separate building, or even room, with special ventilation and none of the maintenance. The good ones, come with at least a 10 yr. warranty and the size is so much smaller. My brother just installed a system at his house, that has 20KW of battery storage, that wouldn't even fill one of the bucket seats of our trucks.

It used to be a rich man's hobby. Now it can easily make economic sense, if you have the right site.

And the price to performance curves will continue to cross. It only gets better from here. Its just that it took a while to get here.

Already do. I lived in Florida for nearly 30 years. Went through 5 hurricanes that knocked out power for at least 7 days each time. Everyone one had generators and the infamous suicide cords to backfeed through the dryer plugs. This was me getting prepped for Irma

I'm now set up with a 240 outlet in my garage and will use my Generac 5500 for to run my house minus my stove and a/c.
