Although ford officially doesn't claim to support E85 on the 5.0 anymore, has anyone put this theory to the test?

AFAIK nothing has changed powertrain wise. Tuner's feel free to chime in here....

If they no longer support flex fuel, they may have deleted the ethanol sensor to save money. Likely a result of people not using it enough to warrant putting it in the vehicle, aka cost savings. If such is the case, no you cannot run e85 because it can't be detected and accounted for by the PCM.

Reasonable assumption. I heard somewhere though that the ethanol content was instead deduced by the O2 sensor in the exhaust. I don't think the 21-23's have a dedicated O2 sensor. I'm wondering if they just didn't want to do another epa mileage test who knows...

I’m still wondering if the deletion of flex fuel has anything to do with the 5.0 gaining an MPG on the EPA sticker. It now ties the 3.5 EB officially for the first time, although we been known for years lol.

I was looking forward to trying it.. But I've never put it in any vehicle I have owned.

Even on the 21-23 the use of 85 is pretty blatantly advertised in the manual. Consult the manual of the 24s. I

Ford wasn't using an ethanol sensor like GM did. They had a virtual sensor. So it certainly seemed like a mostly software solution.

Outside switching to smaller injectors, I don't understand how they could have saved money on dropping it.

Sounds like they may use the same logic from the 3.5s where it's constantly adjusting timing and looking for knock. I thought they were using an ethanol sensor for the 5.0, it's much quicker than waiting for the OAR to find its way.

Here call it sticking it to the tuners who are sending out tunes for E35-E50 so the owners can track on Sunday and the dealers can warranty it on Monday.

Of course you can do anything you want, just don't break the engine and expect them to cover it. Yes, Ford does not use ethanol sensing sensors on the F150, it is strictly inferred. That's why it is highly discouraged to do a flex fuel tune on boost.

Just put 33 gallons of E85 in for my first fuel up. 559 miles on it and now I have a CEL. Ford pass message "The engine control system has reached its adaptive learning limits with the fuel control system. *Auto start/stop will be disabled if this light is on*"

So I found a cheap fix to disable auto start/stop.

How is the truck running? Any driveability issues?

Don't flexfuel vehicles have upgraded components throughout the fuel system - to deal with the corrosive nature of ethanol?

As of today 6/1/24 the Ford website still lists the recommended fuel for the F150 5.0 V8 as regular unleaded or E85. All other engines only say regular unleaded.

I had planned to run E85 in my truck which is currently being shipped. If it arrives with the yellow gas cap, I will run E85.

My '21 doesn't have a gas cap and I don't think any of them do.
