How many camshafts does the 3.5 have?
They're both DOHC motors. Both motors are high in complexity overall -- most modern motors are to squeeze out every little bit of performance / emissions. The powerboost is arguably the most complex. 9 electric motors of various types (6 are pumps), not counting windows / hvac (up to 8 more there)(~10 more in the seats, up to 6 in the headlights depending on trim). One and a half dozen electric actuators and needle valves.

I was being facetious.

Trust me, I'm aware. ;)

Remember I'm the guy that wanted the simplest truck I could get.
Your ancestors suffered with basic run of the mill vehicles, get all the bells and whistles :)

I'm a biased V8 owner. I have no desire for a turbo gasoline motor in a truck.
You know what's even better? A turbo or supercharged V8!

I flogged the living piss out of my 5.0 after THIS shit happened.

https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/inside-your-2021-5-0-at-3500-miles.8526/

25K later... 70K left on my 100K/7 ESP and I'm just now getting the hang of the power band and the 10 speed.

Off road it's incredible.

Towing is a dream.

It never says "no" ...just more, more, MORE!

I'm guessing another 30-50K or so before I can really take full advantage of all the tech, on & off road. It's like learning to play a new instrument. There's just so many subtitle differences between the drive modes, how you push them and learning to react to what the machine is telling you while you do.

I've owned many different vehicles of all makes, models and origins over the years. Most had a personality of their own. Pretty straight forward and once you got to know them, they eventually became boring.

But this truck has so many completely different personalities it's new experience every time I drive.

I suspect the 3.5 is the same, only different.

I have owned both 5.0 and 3.5EB. I vote 3.5EB. I am turning into my old man but I love the quiet power with only a slight turbo whistle under moderate throttle. Also the power in sport mode is unreal.

Me and V8 engine notes have a history. I had a detonator yellow ram 1500 pipped sport truck with a 3rd gen hemi. I rumbled my wife, before we were married, out of her garage apartment when she was late for one our dates. I thought it was hilarious. Her, not so much. She whole apartment was vibrating and she could not hear herself think. If I had another 5.0… I might be tempted again.

All in all both are good motors.

Here's how fortunate we are...imagine if the powertrain options for the Ford Mustang were the 2.3 Ecoboost, the 5.0 Coyote, and the 3.5 Ecoboost. How short are the Ram and GM arguments by comparison?

I love my Powerboost, but if I were purchasing a truck knowing that I was planning on abusing it from day 1, I think that I'd stick with the oldest, most proven designs, and go with the 5.0 v8.

Sorry, but you did not. There was no 5.0 in 03.
Holy crap, I just pulled out the window sticker and, of course, you're right. My bad. I guess my memory is going.

Over the years, I guess the 4.6 gradually morphed in my brain to rounding it off to 5l and then eventually to 5.0.

Thanks for the correction. Well-deserved. ?

My 5.0 in sport mode with high octane can sometimes scare me. I think being 75 yrs. old may have something to do with that.

Here's the question though....when you put it into sport mode, do you also put it back into 2wd, AND turn traction control off? Please do so if you have not and let me know what you think.

Now imagine, you've got nearly 170% the HP and 200% the torque to the tires and you get what my PB does. Even locking the rear end, the tires have no chance. And the sound from the engine is rather quiet. It just pulls and pulls, not much sound though.
