Thought this was interesting, I’ve watched a few of these guys videos as he posts his Tremor with the 5.0 here and there. He compared his 2013 FX4 generation 1 5.0L to his new 2023 generation 4 5.0L Tremor truck. Always interesting to see progress in engineering in action. Even being a crew cab with bigger meat on the axles the new 5.0 pulled away effortlessly. I still like the look of those gen 12 trucks, that’s a nice red color.

The 2013 5.0 was rated at 360 hp/ 380 lb ft with the 6R80

The 2023 5.0 is rated at 400 hp/ 410 lb ft with the 10R80

I have two 5.0's in the driveway. One is a 2014 3.73 lifted on 20x10's and 35's. Mine is a 2023 3.73 leveled on 34's. The power and drivability difference between the two is insane. If I didn't know any better I'd tell you they weren't even the same basic engine.

When I traded my 13' 5.0 SCAB for my 21' 5.0 I was blown away at how much better it was...at basically everything. Though I'm sure the 10spd has something to do with that, it's hard to believe the 2 engines are even related lol.

One thing I didnt hear mentioned was the rearend diff? The 5.0ls come with multiple rearend options. Like HCFX said, those need to match or at least be mentioned.

10 speed, lighter body, better tuning. I'm still partial to the 12th gen trucks but in comparison to the latest, they are showing their age.

2013 FX4 5.0 would very likely be a 3.73. 3.55 is possible but they weren't very common.

The biggest difference is the 12:1 compression ratio with dual injection on the new 5.0L vs 10.5:1 compression with just port injection on the older motors. The whole power curve is improved from idle, in fact both hit peak torque at the same 4,250 rpm but the new motor is making 30 lb ft more torque at that same rpm.

Generally for highway rolls you want a taller gear like a 3.31 or 3.15 for a fast take off, 3.73 is better from a stop. This is why a 3.31 ungoverned will have a higher top speed than a 3.73, more gear until you run out of motor. So even if the older truck has taller gears, that is an even better showing for the new motor if it has 3.73s.
