Most of the techs just jealous they can't wrench on the HV system w/out the extra class. Tech isn't synonymous with "pro" and they're not interchangeable.

It'd also be foolish to forget these are the same people who can't diagnose a failure in the diff / whatever other issue your truck comes back with from the dealer, still broken. I'm sure there's lots of decent techs out there, they're just unicorns around these parts.
There are a lot of grossly misinformed "pros" and techs in that video.
Pros like me choose the 5.0 without the rod poking out through the block or the PB without the grenaded turbo.
The "pros" didn't really impress me. Some of them were pretty inarticulate and flat out incorrect about the 5.0 having more power (relative to the PB).

However, I do think the 5.0 will be more reliable over the long run. They are probably easier and less expensive to repair/service compared to the PB which may be partly why those technicians prefer them.

The PB has about 30% more torque at the wheels than the 5.0, AND the PB is heavily limited by software because it can easily exceed the torque limits of the 10R80. The PB has more dongles and bits which can break, though several are user removable with some effort (i.e. the exhaust heat exchanger) and the front "belt alternator generator starter" might be removable....I don't want to be the first guy to try that one. LiFePO4 is going to change to anode free sodium over the next 10-20 years, which will hopefully drive cost down while pushing total cycles up to functionally infinite (but notably the energy density will be almost exactly what we have today). The current battery won't last forever, even with Ford's 40-60% SoC/0.3 kWh functional capacity.

I am coming to the end of maximizing what a PB can do with bolt on upgrades. I've been on any odyssey with the exhaust, and next week I'm getting the SPD 3" pipes converted to dual 3" all the way back to a Flowmaster BB 50 with a 3.5" turndown vs the Y into a single 3" and a flow through muffler with a side exit that I have now. FullRace says their exhaust manifolds will be ready in December-January, and I am getting that plus their enlarged radiator installed then. After all of that is done, I'm gonna install the Livernois E-tune. I already have a Livernois intercooler and an AFE intake connected to a Cervini ram air hood.

This won't push power numbers up much (though it could), but I am really curious to see where MPG lands. The value of my journey to this thread is that a PB has the potential to improve mileage, torque from 1200 RPM up, and the same longevity as a 5.0, whereas the 5.0 only has the option of sacrificing mileage for power with an aftermarket belt supercharger.

Notably, I have nothing against the 5.0, and its issues are very similar to those of the PB. A turbocharged 5.0 bolted to the short lived 100 HP Aviator hybrid motor and a 10R140 would be a towing monster in a Superduty, whereas the current PB in the F150 would be better served by the proposed setup for the Ranger hybrid with the 2.3l I4 and connected to the current PB motor/10R80. Most of the "better" and "worse" limitations have far more to do with the exceptional Lego pieces that Ford designed and the bizarre manner in which they assembled them. The 3.5 is a fine engine, but the part that makes me call it "better" has nothing to do with the long block: it's the hybrid motor and the E-wastegate turbos.

I absolutely swear, promise, guarantee that I have nothing but the utmost respect for the Coyote currently available in a new F150.

But that video is the PERFECT example of who represents our Gen14 Factory Authorized Service Center technicians!

Wow.

And it was an echo chamber quality example too. They literally echoed the identical error almost perfectly in time. ????

Full disclosure: If the question had been "which engine would you rather work on since that's what you do for a living", then it would have made sense to me for the echo.

By the way, just out of curiosity, I would LOVE to have each technician questioned then reveal what they drove to work. ?
Betting not one drives a Gen14 F150. Just a guess, of course.

Agreed on all points - particularly the bolded part.

I figured a bunch of you guys would get fired up about that video.

I’m trying to be more Raptor owner and not concern myself with silly comparisons to lessers.

Pardon me, but I believe that the accepted term is "The Poors". Also, do you have any Grey Poupon?

It's just amusing that out of the 7 factory delivered power train offerings in an F-150 including Supercharged 5.2L, Lightning, 3.5L EB HO, 3.5L PB, 3.5L EB, 5.0L Coyote, and 2.7L EB the 5.0L Coyote is the 2nd lowest on the list in terms of horsepower beating only the 2.7L EB. Note that I take the liberty to rank it lower than the 3.5L EB because the later has more torque thus breaking the tie in terms of horsepower.

Sure, the 5.0L Coyote might be ranked #1 in terms of reliability or easy of repair, but it definitely isn't the most powerful factory delivered offering even if only considering the standard offerings; not even close. It almost defies credulity that a bunch of seasoned "pros" don't know this.

PB horsepower and torque ratings are gimped. Be a sport and snuggle it right up behind the RaptorR.
