New transmission failed in a week. What's that about?

2018 F150 67,000 miles. Had the transmission replaced four weeks ago with a new transmission that includes three year warranty. $10,500 at Ford dealership service. I paid $5,300 and Ford covered the rest.

Would you believe within a week after picking it back up it started shifting hard (clunk) occasionally going second through fourth gear. More concerning to me was a loud clunk and shudder when going from park into reverse. Happened more than half the time.

Took the truck back in to the service department today and they said the CDF Drum is shot. Last month Ford told them to replace the entire transmission. Dealership don't know yet if Ford wants them to replace the entire transmission again or just the CDF Drum.

Seems like a never ending nightmare. How is this even possible? Am I missing something? What did they really do the first time for which I paid $5,300? Or is this truly plausible?

I'm about a week away from picking up my 2024 F150 that I ordered and wondering if I should just cut my losses and jump off the sinking Ford ship? ?

I don’t even know how that could be possible unless they installed something incorrectly.

Sorry to hear.

Thanks. Wondering the same thing. Had to have done something incorrectly.

If that was me, I would be on the phone with Ford, and not even be talking to the dealership! Obviously either they did not do this right, Ford supplied a junk rebuilt transmission, or the dealership charged you for work that was not done. meaning they did not replace the transmission at all.

That would be my assessment is likely didn’t flush the system outside the transmission well (cooler lines, radiator) and crap got introduced back into the trans.
Exactly my initial thought, they should have replaced trans cooler and lines and flushed the crap out of the radiator!!

The adaptive learning in the 10r80 is bs. Transmissions should know everything they need to know from day one. First tsb plus rebuild at 30k, 2nd done at a little over 50k, complete unit replacement at 55k, transfer case replaced at 58k. Truck is still at the dealership experiencing damaging harsh shifting destroying the rest of the power train. Give customers a trans choice back.???

Your 3 posts on this forum have been exactly the same thing. Is there a valid reason for this or are you a bot? No rule against endlessly repeating yourself, but it seems pretty odd.

I'm just letting other owners know that they are not alone with their junk 10r80s.

I'm glad I've still got my 96 and 08 F-150s so I still have a truck to drive. Wish I wouldn't have traded my 17. Never had any problems with that coyote 6 speed combo.

What motor in your 2020 and is it tuned? A lot of failures, especially for one owner.

It's got coyote 5.0. I love the coyote and never had any trouble out of my 10 coyote 6 speed combo. No tunes everything is still stock.
