I called the dealership last week and they made an appointment for this Friday to allow the parts to arrive. In the meantime, I had my tires rotated last night (not thinking that could have been done during the appointment on Friday, but it is free at Discount Tire). Anyway, when they removed the driver side wheel, they found the axle bolt had sheared. This was my first broken axle bolt on my 2022. I guess I'm now covered if they require the bolt to be broken before replacing the axle.

I'm really hoping the dealership is actually doing their job and the parts are there on Friday. I will certainly call ahead.

Although a little annoying to be dealing with this recall, I do like that I'll be getting new axles and hubs at 30K.

Yes, if you have other dealers in the area give them a shot. First one I called which is my usual go-to was not on board. Wanted to inspect the truck and said it’s hard to get the parts. Second dealer was super easy, said they were getting axles in a few days and scheduled me. Dropped off the truck a

It took a week for my dealer to receive the axle replacement for me. Hope yours show up quicker.

Just got the call the axles arrived at my dealer and am scheduled for tomorrow. They ordered them based on my phone request. No pictures, no see it first, no BS.
.
Dropped it off about 40min ago, they confirmed they have the new part numbers, and I can now see it up on the rack with the rotors off. I had asked for brake fluid flush since I'm at 42 months and 36k miles. They inspected/tested it and said it is still clean, in great shape, and don't recommend doing it. So I asked them to put that detail in the invoice notes.

Actually called my dealer today to move the drop time back a bit, they didn’t have an issue with that and didn’t mention parts not being available, heading the stories here really has me appreciating the dealer I have do my service right now.

Did discount say that your vehicle was not drivable? I understand Costco does this and requires a tow for repairs.
I don't want to sound like a tough guy, but I'd like to see someone at Costco declare my truck with a sheared axle bolt as undrivable.

I mean they have every right to that opinion, of course, but denying me my keys? ???

That might be a viral video with me potentially being handcuffed in the back of a Sherrif Deputy's unit?

I really want these new axles on my non-recalled 2023 Max tow. I was initially thinking the Dec 2023 build date was a good thing cause it was outside the recall. Now I need an actual failure before they'll fix it :headbang:

If you shear a bolt, you're getting the new designed axle, regardless of build date.

If you never shear a bolt, you have just as good a truck as anyone else does.

I realize human nature might struggle with that assessment though. ?

Right but if you're not under recall then if you're out of warranty you're paying out of pocket.

Patience, Grasshopper.

You're in fine shape for now, and eventually you may be offered the new version under a recall or CSP even without suffering a bolt-breakage. Personally, I think the likelihood of that is high.

In the meantime, be gracious and allow those who have lived with this much longer than you to get their chance at satisfaction.

The real question for me is which one of us, me/you, is going to say UNCLE first? ?

Now that the news headlines is a few weeks old, I'm back to being stubbornly extending my bolt experiment to if/when it falls.

I have 6 more years currently on my Ford Protect plan, but with the limited miles I put on my truck I have some concerns about it running out before they break. I currently have under 7k miles on it and I've owned it for almost 18 months now. I'm not super worried about it personally right now but I know there are others who could be impacted. I'm not rushing out to try and get it done and taking away parts from people who have been dealing with this for 4 years at this point

There was a little bit of a kerfuffle between the service writers and the parts guys about needing the bolts to be broken, pics taken, etc. I just waved my hand like Obi-Wan and said, I'm here, the parts are here, let's just get it done. After a 5 min huddle, they proceeded. There is still definitely confusion between Ford and the dealers.

On another note, they let me watch them swap them out which was cool. The senior tech said I'm the first truck they've done, so he trained three other techs at the same time.
