Not quite; I’ve been driving around my truck for 16 months :D

Though, I do worry about what I would do if I needed to replace the truck and it’s not good that there are less choices for 2023 than in 2022.

Don’t forget about the 141” WB

I told the truck sales manager when I was taking test drives for most of the day back before I placed my order that I wished you could still order a totally stripped base model without any interior at all save for some vinyl panels over the doors.

I still think that they derate the PB because of the hybrid drivetrain. Gotta make everything last until the warranty expires!

Key word being ‘was,’ apparently the remaining link has been dead for a while now unfortunately.

It was a good resource, perhaps too good!
the HDPP 7850 GVWR is only available on the 157” and 163” WB vehicles.

Not for ‘23…
This is the first time hearing that. It’s not reflected in the 2023 order guide from earlier this year and the configurator tool shows the one change to the 141WB HDPP option of dropping the 36 gallon tank from the package.

Have you tried ordering one or seen anything specific? It wouldn’t shock me if they weren’t taking custom orders for the regular cab HDPP and prioritized their fleet customers but it would be very surprising if they dropped it completely, since the regular cab HDPPs are what I saw the most of when I was searching for used trucks. They were all white with lots of miles and many were missing their tailgates from having slide in utility boxes.

Hoping to get some myths and confusion cleared up here.
I have ordered a 2023 F150 CREW 6.5 bed, 3.5 EB, FX4 with Max Tow. I did not see HDPP (Heavy Duty Payload) on order site and was told by dealer that HDPP was only available on XL trim. I have seen posts on this site stating that Max Tow includes bigger axle, springs, etc. I believe this is incorrect and a common myth (Assumption). I am hoping I am wrong and something has changed for 2023? Are any of the HDPP components now included in the Max Tow Package? I was hoping to get a 2100lb+ payload.
My TT has a 900-1000 tongue weight and a 1600lb payload isnt going to cut it.
If ford just flat out discontinued this option on XLT and above they are going to lose a ton of the RV 5th wheel and TT customers.
Very frustrated at Fords confusing and misleading tow specifications and packages.
Any first hand feedback will be appreciated.
I have 2021 with 302a XLT Powerboost with payload package. Here is a picture of my hitch label. And Door tag. Looks like a V-5 on the label hitch which must mean class 5. 11600 Tow weight distribution, 1160 tongue weight distribution. Just trying to figure i can easily tow my 34 ft coachman RLDS 290 travel trailer that maxs out at 7700. My tongue wt is 835 unloaded. With propane and stuff closer to 1100. Oh ya and 1619 total carrying capacity.

The numbers look okay.

Just watch what else you carry in the cab and box so you don't exceed payload.

How far would your be travelling and what kind of terrain? Flat or hilly?

I think a 29' trailer is right at a half tons limits. (Just my opinion)

Personally, I wouldn't tow anything longer than a 26' trailer with a half ton. 24' is really my comfort level. But I might be a paranoid tower. I like to leave a lot of leeway....

Have you already towed this trailer?

Coming from owning a 2020 f250 super duty 7.3l crew cab for 2 years it was too much truck for my daily needs and a standard f150 wouldn’t be enough. I did a lot of research on hdpp vs max tow and wanted the extra payload.

Max tow is definitely more than just a trailer tow package because it does include the 9.75 rear end and 3 leaf springs

I know there is in depth info on ford website about increased brake sizes and frame thickness

On paper the payload of this f150 hdpp is the same as the f250

but I can tell you by looking at and owning the two trucks in person the superduty is twice the truck if you need it

also when I added trailer tow mirrors that required copilot 360 2.0 to be added

Do you recall if there was a link to that?

My ‘23 XL HDPP came in yesterday…

Well, I guess I am over the length at 34 ft. We will see on a long trip when the weather is nicer for old folks to tow.

Here’s my 2023 HDPP payload sticker. Pretty impressive for a half ton. Too bad Ford doesn’t offer it in other trim packages. However this truck has more technology than I’ll ever be able to learn to use.

Thought I’d post my mostly stock 2022 XLT scab v8 301A, 36 gal with 3:73 as ordered. apparently if you order the v8 with elec locking diff you get the 9.75 rear end. I added decals for comparison. It is a 9.75B rear end and I think the brakes are bigger.

My 2014 XL scab v8 36 gal with 3:73 mid had all the same but came with the 8.8 rear end.
I would have preferred the 8.8 on my 2022 XLT for lighter unstrung weight. Since I don’t tow 10 k lb. I can’t figure out what determines 8.8 or 9.75 when ordering. Any body know?

At least in 2020 and 2021, ordering the 3.73 gearing automatically gets you the standard 9.75” rear diff/axle. Even regular cab shortbeds with 3.73 will get the 9.75”

For Max Tow and possibly some of the Powerboost trucks, the 9.75” will be the HD version.

It looks like you have the standard 9.75” axle with the L6 axle code, meaning that it is 3.73 with the electronic locker.

I have no idea if the standard rear brakes are larger than the previous gen. but the HD9.75” axle won’t clear 17” rims.
