How does the saying go? The correct number of (whatever) is n+1 where n is the current number you already have. So nah, 4 cars isn't absurd depending on your goals in life.

Regarding the title to this thread, that's part of the reason I bought one as well. I wanted a replacement for my 2000 Ranger and figured it would be (probably) my last change to buy a new V8 powered vehicle. A relative of mine still has the truck he bought in 1978, I am hoping this truck will give me an equally long service life (I drive under 3k miles a year).

I also have my "daily" driver, although have been driving the truck most of the time the past few months partially because "new shiny" and partially because it's something different than my car. With that said, I really enjoy driving both and it's refreshing how different they are.

I think that is a factor in the OP's world.
Maybe. He also said he already had three cars and having four was “absurd.” I’m just trying to give him another perspective that maybe four is not absurd. It also sounds like he/they already have vehicles that are capable of transporting his entire family so the RCSB would just be his fun toy.

At least that’s how I read it.

Also, if anyone cares, my adult son is mentally disabled. He is about 6-1 and 260. He and my wife and I have run a number of errands in my RCSB and have been cozy but comfortable. Two smaller humans would be a breeze IMO. We have an out of state trip coming up so we will take the full size SUV. We are blessed to have options and it sounds like the OP also has options.

Finally, FWIW for those on the fence, I had an Access Cab Tundra for 16 years before my RCSB. I actually NEEDED the rear seat in that truck a total of zero times. I used the rear seat less than ten times over 16 years. So in my case at least, the RCSB was an easy choice.

What do you enjoy about the truck? What was your daily before?
For me it just checks all the boxes. It's a comfortable daily when I'm just wanting to wind down on my ride home from work, it's fun and puts a smile on my face when I want to get on it and scratch that itch, and it handles all the weekend duties of home depot runs or dump runs. Pulls the utility trailer just fine when I need to grab rock or dirt even with the ridetech suspension with the bags, and gives the wife and I the giggles on bursts from red light to red light. Win win.

My daily before this was a Jetta gli. Fun little car that got good mpg and ran well until I got the rcsb. Before this truck I had a crew cab Denali and as much as I loved the truck I didn't enjoy driving it. I always found myself not wanting to take it because I was worried about parking it in small lots and it just wasn't "fun" to drive because it felt so big so I'd take the Jetta. I had it a little over 3 yrs and only put 18,000 miles on it. This truck has been the opposite, I enjoyed driving it so much that the daily ended up parked 90% of the time and I just couldn't justify letting it sit to rot so I sold it. Thought I'd miss the gas mileage but the trade off didn't bother me.

At the end of the day you've got to do what's best for your situation. If it's something you can justify I say do it, you'll love it.

Vehicles are a depreciating asset and the best one you can get is the one you buy in cash.

I, like you, wanted to have an RCSB, but I have 4 young kids and that clearly wouldn't work.

So, I financed my 5.0 Supercrew with 0% rate on a 5 yr term and bought an '09 V8 RCSB in cash. Have been sinking a little money into it to bring it the way I want it, and I get to itch the RCSB scratch.

Now, I'm contradicting myself a little by financing the Supercrew, but I do own a company and the company is financing it, not me personally. So, a little different scenario.

It seems to me that the days of a rcsb 5.0 f150 are numbered and I've been wondering if I should pick one up before they stop making it. I've had an irrational itch for a RCSB 5.0 f150 for years now . My first car was a 2001 rcsb 5.4L and I've always had a soft spot for similar trucks. But now I have a family of 4 and have zero need for a truck. Yet these coyote 5.0's are impressive and the look, sound and feel of a v8 rcsb sure is enticing. So talk to to me. I almost never come across used ones in my area. Should I take the leap and secure one now before it's gone? We already have 3 cars. My foxbody, wife's SUV and my boring daily. I may keep my daily but 4 cars is absurd. Or do you think the days are not numbered and I have plenty time?
I have waited 6 month to get my 5.0 KR on a special order no glass on the top full electronic gizmo, and a 3.73 axle that is My last truck as I retire soon, that was to replace my lariat that was stolen during Covid, and i enjoy it each time im driving it, and I took the long box 6.5' best ride with that

Go get one

Best regards

If you can hit the targets with an 11 liter V12 E
What did it say after this? I couldn't read it, as my screen was covered with drool . . .

(OK, I'll admit to being a V8 bigot, with v12 and v16 just being even better v8s. OK, that's not quite fair; I'm cool with straight 8s, too . . . [what was that song a few years ago? Something like, "It's all about v8s, don't want no six, don't want no four"?])
?

OK, she has one and I have four.
amateur!

Let's be serious.

A guy needs
1) a roadster
2) a convertible pony car with a manual and v8
3) a 70s big block convertible
4) a 50s convertible (manual, unless it's a Cadillac)
5) a 20s vehicle
6) a Northstar Cadillac
7) a truck.

And unless one of these (probably 1, 2, or 7) can be driven daily, he also needs a daily driver.

how are you supposed to get by with just four???

[ok, I'm still looking for #4 and #5, and to upgrade #2 to a year I want]

I, like you, wanted to have an RCSB, but I have 4 young kids and that clearly wouldn't work.
When I got the Miata, folks questioned it, as I had 4 kids.

I don’t disagree with you but… I think you may have over complicated a very simple math formula.

The number of vehicles a person needs is N+1.

Where N is the current number of vehicles the person currently owns.

Additionally, anytime my wife hints at us owning too many vehicles I just tell her to look around at all the thousands of vehicles we DON’T own. Puts it all in perspective. ?

OK, I'm definitely holding that one in reserve!

we're currently looking to move out of this horrible neighborhood (it was a great one when we bought 35 years ago, but now . . .).

M wife wants a wrap around porch, and I want (in addition to daily driver space) a minimum of a six car garage including two lifts. Everything else is negotiable . . .

[and every convertable needs to go the length of CA 1 and Route 66 with the top down . . .]

I bought the F-150 RCSB because it's the only V8 powered RCSB on the market. Even the "performance" Ford pickups (Raptors, Tremors and Lobos) are all 4-door trucks. And none of the other manufacturers are offering the short wheelbase except Chevy (but not with a V8). My previous truck was a 2012 Ram 1500 RCSB with the 5.7 Hemi. The previous owner had installed a really nice set of headers and full dual exhaust system. I loved it but when I went shopping, that wheelbase was stopped in 2022. And at the time, Ram had stopped offering the Hemi in the 1500, opting to replace it with that stupid straight 6. (They have since brought back the Hemi as an option.) That's when Chrysler (Stellantis) lost me as a potential customer.
So, Ford is alone in that category.
Ultimately, the market will decide how long the V8 powered RCSB will remain.
