It seems to me that the days of a rcsb 5.0 f150 are numbered and I've been wondering if I should pick one up before they stop making it. I've had an irrational itch for a RCSB 5.0 f150 for years now . My first car was a 2001 rcsb 5.4L and I've always had a soft spot for similar trucks. But now I have a family of 4 and have zero need for a truck. Yet these coyote 5.0's are impressive and the look, sound and feel of a v8 rcsb sure is enticing. So talk to to me. I almost never come across used ones in my area. Should I take the leap and secure one now before it's gone? We already have 3 cars. My foxbody, wife's SUV and my boring daily. I may keep my daily but 4 cars is absurd. Or do you think the days are not numbered and I have plenty time?

Hard to say what fords plans are for the regular cab. The fact that they offer them with less and less options would definitely lead you to believe they'd like to faze them out. I love mine and don't regret pulling the trigger one bit. It's fun to drive and gets a good bit of attention for what it is. I initially bought it for a weekend toy but enjoyed driving it so much that my daily ended up sitting and barely getting driven so I sold it. I've actually considered buying a 2nd one so I can keep my current one as my daily and then do what I originally planned with the new one lol.

I almost purchased one until I went and looked at one in person and compared it to my 2014 regular cab long bed. I discovered that Ford made the regular cabs quite a bit smaller compared to the previous generation and that was a dealbreaker for me. I ended up getting a supercab, which is a good compromise and I love it and it is still as fast as hell too (see sig).

I couldn't justify spending $48,000 with two young kids at home (I assume they're young given your fist vehicle was a 01) for a vehicle I don't need just to scratch an itch.

That said, I like my truck, but I have no idea Ford's plans. I feel like they'd sell a ton more of them if they made them given how short a time they sit on lots, but there's no huge profit margin in it for them. I do feel like the V8 is headed the way of the dodo. It's one of the reasons I ordered mine when I did. If not by Ford's choice, it will eventually be killed in the name of "gas mileage".

I think the V8 engine could be around for a little longer party due to the current policy changes coming from Lee Zeldin at the EPA. Because of these policy changes, Stefanis for example is bringing back the HEMI V8 engine in their trucks and many auto manufacturers have put EV R&D on hold or delayed it like Ford did and are now concentrating on hybrids or newer gas models instead. Long live the V8 engine! ?

I think Ford would do a hybrid V8 before they ever did no V8. Ford family and Farley are both very pro-V8 and have stomped on the corporate overlords over this issue for the last decade and won. It is super easy to just offer small displacement turbo everything but they made engineering further evolve and refine the V8 instead (a cost, but a worthy cost). The Mustang would have been an EcoBoost years ago if it wasn’t for the Ford family laying down the law on that.

I don't think Ford wants the V8 gone, I just think it will be taken out of their hands. Kind of like how the Colorado and Ranger just keep getting bigger.

EPA doesn’t care about displacement in the least, they care about metrics. US isn’t like Europe, we don’t tax or fine displacement (a stupid European idea). If you can hit the targets with an 11 liter V12 EPA doesn’t care, you can run with it. Task engineering with building a V8 (or any type of engine) to hit the targets and they will do it.

I point this out quite often, the 5.0 is very comparable to many 2-3 liter turbocharged engines in this segment for emissions. It’s in no more danger than those smaller engines. This isn’t a 350 Chevy we are talking about.

Eventually, they won't be able to hit those targets with a V8.

Hell, eventually they're not going to be able to hit the target with anything other than an electric or severe hybrid. Which is the point.

And, I know things will probably change in the next 4 years. And then, they'll swing right back when the next administration is in office.

Where there is a will there’s a way, hybrid on a V8, higher compression (or variable compression) ceramic nano technology….technology is always moving. Americans like V8’s, they’ll find a way to build increasingly efficient versions. Too much profit to be made to throw in the towel. GM has a new one they haven’t even pulled the sheet off of.

I am not anti EV either, both have their place.

I'm anti EV in the sense of that I dislike being forced into anything by the government. What people want to buy is their business. But, it's none of the government's god damned business.

@JExpedition07 what are your thoughts on CAFE standards, or Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards which target miles per gallon averages that auto manufacturer's must meet in a given model year and how the V8 engine fits into that equation. Remember there are separate standards for passenger cars and light trucks.

What do you enjoy about the truck? What was your daily before?

Buy it.

My wife and I have five cars. OK, she has one and I have four. (Plus an RV, a dual sport and a scooter). I/we drive and enjoy them all.

I can't speak for the guy your asking this of, but I like the fact that it can be a very tame, well mannered daily driver truck, but occasionally can get after it. I also like that it isn't enormous and have a lot of extra stupid crap on it (although that it still has too much stuff for my liking).

My previous daily was an 05 XLT extended cab. I didn't dislike it, but it was my first non regular cab truck and I just don't like the station wagon trucks. Since my kids are now of driving age themselves, I went back to what I like. I don't need to drag around all that extra crap since 99% of the time there will never be more than me amd my wife needing to go anywhere in it.
