Finally got my truck and now I need to decide on bedliner. I have two local line x shops and one bullet liner shop, but the bullet shop has mixed/bad reviews. The first line x shop I called strongly recommended premium and said that within 6 months the liner will be faded if I went with the standard. The second shop didn’t even quote me on the premium initially and when I asked about it they said they don’t really recommend it, especially if you’ll be using any type of cover at all. So what’s the real deal? Anyone gotten the regular line x fo regret it? Any photos of a ‘faded’ non premium? Thanks in advance.

Have not been a fan of LineX.
I went with another brand and love it. Looks great.
I'll try and find the product name

Update:
"Mil-Spec". Didn't realize it stood for 'Military Soecification'.
This really is a great product. My last 3 trucks have had it, and it's almost impossible to scratch or mar this bed. Still has a rich, black to it, no fade.
Search a local dealer, you will be happy

I had standard linex in my 2018 for almost 5 years. It faded a little. It’s a spray in bed liner though, so I really don’t mind. It still serves its purpose regardless.

Thank you for this. I have a mil spec dealer locally who has excellent reviews, but don’t see much info on the liner online. What do you like about their product vs line x?

"Mil-Spec" is a real thing and is the United States defense standard, often called a military standard, "MIL-STD", "MIL-SPEC", or "MilSpecs", is used to help achieve standardization objectives by the U.S. Department of Defense.
When you hear "military grade", that is marketing BS and not worth anything.

I had regular old LineX on my old truck (07.5 Chevy 2500) that held up extremely well. Never started fading until about year 10 when it was parked in full sun nearly all day everyday. When I sold it in 2022, its was in great shape (and that fading was minor).

I ended up getting premium LineX on my next truck. Hard to say what the long term will be, but it does seem a bit thicker and very rich, deep black. The cost difference was minor at the time cuz there was a deal going on at my LineX dealer.

Biggest thing with spray liner is the shop that installs.
Some spray only half the thickness as the manufacturer states is required. If there's an issue, your warranty isn't valid through the Manufacturer and then it's an issue to be taken up with the dealer.

A friend of mine owns a Rhino Liner shop and has explained to me before. It happens quite often.

Do you find the premium to be more slippery?

I would get the premium at a minimum as the standard Line-X isn't UV resistant, but you'd probably be fine with the standard if it was always covered. I got the Line-X Platinum liner, and I've been very happy with it.

My Line-X is about as slick as a plastic drop in liner which is nice when loading certain things into the bed. I also have a rubber bed mat that I use when I want things to stay exactly where I put them.

I have had a Line-X Premium on my past two F150s and I have a cover. I like the feel of it better than the standard Line-X.

Do they remove everything to install the liner and reinstall all the parts and pieces in the bed? Look at my pictures.

I also agree, it's the preparation and installer that makes the liner good or not so good. My Line-X dealer installer has been doing it for 19 years. His sanding and taping are perfect which is why the finished product looks and functions as advertised.

Two comments.

First, MIL-SPEC (the standard) is really mis-used. So much so that it is virtually meaningless. Every bit as meaningless as "military grade." Read up on it, you'll see what I mean. So much legalese and differing specs that anything can be mil-spec depending how you word it. And it depends on which military specification. Do people actually read the spec cited or just go "ooh, aah"? My bet is on the latter. Did 30 years in the Army and laugh every time I see or hear someone brag about "x being mil spec." 9 times out of 10 it's Madison Avenue BS and not anything remotely mil-spec.

Second, Line-X durability. I do business with an absolutely spectacular Line-X franchisee here in MD. The owner's recommendation (which I followed) is get Line-X premium for the bed if it isn't covered by a tonneau cover or topper. Otherwise, the standard package is just fine.

YMMV

I agree, the shop that installs and how much care is taken. I have had covers on my trucks for the last 20 years and have always had spray in liners. I had a Rhino liner in my 2019 and it was much better than any of the Linex I had previously. I had a bed rug installed in my 22 just for something different. After just over a year of use I would go back to spray in liner, and Rhino Liner over Linex. It seemed to be thicker, grip better and no fade, well in the three years I had it....

I got the standard and it faded pretty quick. Other than looking crappier I don't think there's any practical issues with it, it still holds up just fine to any abuse I throw at it. After the first load of mulch I don't know if it would have made much of a difference. If you wash your truck regularly I would guess you would prefer the premium, but if you're not too worried about looks the standard has held up fine.

I do not have a sprayed in liner, I just use the bed mat, but it is something you will only do once.
