So I’ve noticed the liner smells pretty bad. Initially, I thought someone who smoked had been in my truck and left a really bad stench but turns out it is the liner. Is this normal for all of these products? I guess it eventually goes away?
I can't speak for Mil-Spec, but yes - these things will have a very strong odor when first applied. My Line-X off-gassed for a couple of weeks, but then went away. Hot weather will speed that part up. Smell went away after a few weeks.

I went with the line-x standard. I was told by the dealer (owner is a childhood friend) and he stated:

standard - get if you'r planning to use the bed often because it will not scratch, but over time it may fade.

premium - great uv protection and will always look new. If the bed is used often enough, the uv protective coating will get scuffed up and the liner may fade.

Cleaning standard - every so often, I use dawn dish soap and a scrub brush to clean up the bed. It looks like new when done. No noticeable fading on mine; although, I do have a tri-fold topper that's down when I'm not hauling something.

I believe you'll be happy with most any spray in liner on the market, provided it's installed correctly.

Best of luck with your decision.

"Mil-Spec" is a real thing and is the United States defense standard, often called a military standard, "MIL-STD", "MIL-SPEC", or "MilSpecs", is used to help achieve standardization objectives by the U.S. Department of Defense.
When you hear "military grade", that is marketing BS and not worth anything.
It's funny to name a COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) product Mil-Spec for marketing hype. Genius! You could do a funny "Who's on first base?" comedy skit with that spray on.

COTS and Mil-Spec are not contradictory. Plenty of COTS products meet Mil-Spec requirements.

Two comments.

First, MIL-SPEC (the standard) is really mis-used. So much so that it is virtually meaningless. Every bit as meaningless as "military grade." Read up on it, you'll see what I mean. So much legalese and differing specs that anything can be mil-spec depending how you word it. And it depends on which military specification. Do people actually read the spec cited or just go "ooh, aah"? My bet is on the latter. Did 30 years in the Army and laugh every time I see or hear someone brag about "x being mil spec." 9 times out of 10 it's Madison Avenue BS and not anything remotely mil-spec.

Second, Line-X durability. I do business with an absolutely spectacular Line-X franchisee here in MD. The owner's recommendation (which I followed) is get Line-X premium for the bed if it isn't covered by a tonneau cover or topper. Otherwise, the standard package is just fine.

YMMV

Hi Sojourner,

Can you give me the name and address of the Line-X franchisee in MD that you said is spectacular? I am looking to get the bed of my 2024 Ford F-150 done.

Thanks,

Dave
