Damn, so I saw this the other day. I noticed at the end it says “Wheel” in the title. When looking further I noticed it said part # 19980 and when looking at the second image, it shows the wheel dial as being part 19980. So I passed this up thinking it was over $100 for a knob…

Because there are others when you search and they do show $600 plus and are HVAC control units for the same site.

I went and paid the premium on eBay. Wish I could go back in time.

as far as I know a dealer has to do it. I've never done it and don't plan to. The only benefit is the DTC goes away which I only see if I scan for codes.
It can be done with Forscan. Havent done it myself yet, but I have a new HVAC unit with digital readouts and SCCM for adding a heated steering wheel to my '23 whenever it comes off chip hold. Both are new units and need to be programmed to work. Pretty sure programming a module via Forscan just consists of either loading your as built files via Forscan, or simply doing a write to the blocks like you would with any Forscan changes. The HVAC module is just the 733 lines (17 of them), and the SCCM is the 724 lines (9 of them), so it should be really easy to manually type the correct info in and then have Forscan do a write all.

Edit: loading AB files is actually super easy, which should be able to program a new module AFAIK

I was referring to adding your VIN to the module.

Yes just loading your previous asbuilts will get it working. You'll have a DTC due to the missing Vin, but it doesn't hurt anything.

Does anyone know how to read these part numbers?

Who can tell.me what the differences in these are? They all have slightly different letters but seem to have the same descriptions.

ML3Z-19980-K (The one posted above)

ML3T-18C612-DE (The one I thought was the platinum, looks the same)

NL3T-18C612-TA (This is the same, but without temp readout knobs)

NL3T-18C612-TB (This looks identical to the "A" one above it)

So how do we read these? Naming convention? Or are they all essentially the same (except for readouts)? There are a lot more but these are the ones I've looked into with heated steering wheel, cooled seats, etc.

I was 2 seconds away from ordering ML3T-18C612-DE from eBay but then saw the info on this thread for the ML3Z-19980-K at a significantly cheaper price and would like to know the difference as well.

I need the heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel options.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the ML3T-18C612-DE number is technically the number for the electronic "core" of the unit, and the entire assembly is ML3Z-19980-K. ML3T-18C612-DE is the most obvious number, so all the eBayers list it as that, when the real part number is ML3Z-19980-K. I see 19980 molded into the plastic on units, as well as 18C612.

I've seen multiple part numbers printed on something as small as the bed light switch, of which the complete assembly has it's own number.

Search for ML3Z-19980-K: Ford Parts sites.

Search for ML3T-18C612-DE: eBay.

Thanks hotrodmex for sharing what you've seen. Yeah it's confusing to when that's what the sticker says on the part

I do wish someone knew this answer. I have a 23 701A Plat PB coming, and want to add the digital temp as well as heated steering down the road. Would like to make sure I'm buying the correct unit, and hope it's the cheaper one.

I watched a bunch of recent videos on YouTube of 2023s and none of them I saw had the readouts.
So I'm wondering if anyone who bought this one from the ford site can confirm if the one they got had the readouts like pictured. Thanks!

Purchased about ten days ago from Tasca for my heated steering wheel
Project when my 22 finally arrives. Was ordering for the heated wheel and was shocked to get it with the led readouts.

That’s freaking incredible. Over half of the cost of my heated steering wheel retrofit was the HVAC module…… I’m mad at you but only because I’m jealous
Feel your brother! I paid 4x current in July. A 75% drop in price still leaves me baffled.
Now....if they could only do that with the entire truck....then we'd be talking ;)

I had to buy a backup at that price. Ford would likely not replace with the same if it dies in a couple years, and by then the price would be who knows.

Tip for those ordering. Tasca vs https://ford.oempartsonline.com/
They use the same backend, but Tasca pays to be higher up on Google search. Tasca charges local use tax and a bit more in shipping (they will send you 5% off shipping if dont complete your order after you enter info). But you can avoid local use tax and get better shipping if you use the second and get an out of state dealer.
