I fiddle more with this “automatic” temperature control than any I’ve owned.

Lots of temperature sensors. They're everywhere. Therefore lots of software too.
Perhaps too much complexity and potential for failure points?

Sensor #2 is the inside temp/humidity sensor. It would help to know what it reads, but regardless it has a clunky automatic system. The compressor is fantastic and it also heats up quickly, so the important stuff is nails. With the Outback and the CL55 before that I just set my desired temp, turn the outlet vents upward so they don't blow directly on anyone, and just like at home the system takes care of the rest. If they overdid it that's sad because it more closely resembles my '06 H3 lol.

I've noticed this too with my 2023 Tremor, both when I picked it up early this spring when temperatures were cool and again now in the fall. My 2019 Ranger would freeze me out at 67-68 this time of year, but this truck its literally blowing hot air at that temp. I believe it is a faulty sensor, but my closest dealership is a pain to work with, waiting to take it to another dealer for a few other small issues. See this thread for more info:

Appreciate the link to that thread. Sounds like theirs was blowing full hot at any setpoint? Can't say that is what mine is doing.

Still suspecting it is operating to design on nearly all our trucks, its just a crap design.

I can never understand why when things work well, across all automakers, how can a company end up taking such a huge step backwards? This HAD TO have been noticed/caught during vehicle development. If I notice it in Idaho they must have noticed it in Michigan or Sweden or Canada or wherever they do their ridiculously-cold-temp testing

This sorta indicates my ongoing hypothesis on the temp and humidity sensor possibly being part of the problem.

Unit sends super hot air out of the floor vents. Feet sweat. Body is plenty warm. But up by the temp sensor it still reads that the cabin is too cold. Keeps pumping heat until it reaches setpoint up by the ceiling.

On the other hand it seems to work basically how I'd expect in the summer so I'm not sure why it seems to work ok when hot out but not when cold out.

I am driving a brand new 2023 f-150 service loaner and the auto climate control works perfect and the cab stays very comfortable. Now I realize something is wrong with mine since all it wants to do is burn your feet and sweat you out of the truck. I wonder if just replacing the sensor at the mirror will fix it.

*Edit*
Contacted my service advisor since my truck will be sitting at the dealership for an extended period as usual and they will add checking this problem to the list so maybe it will be fixed and work as intended.

Agree with most here, I have to fiddle with the "auto" climate control more than any other vehicle ive owned. If I'm driving on a cold (40's) morning, I have to turn it way up to blow any kind of warm air. If its hot out I turn it way down to be comfortable. All other vehicles I've owned I just left at 67 or so and changed fan speed as needed. I have not noticed the excessive heat by my feet issue though.

Looking at where the in cab temp sensor is located it would make sense the system is a bit screwy. The top of the windshield will be cold (or really hot) so of course it’s going to blow hot air forever before that area gets warmed up. The systems algorithm would need to be setup properly, so maybe it’s off?

Just got my 2023 Lariat Powerboost two weeks ago and noticed this temperature problem immediately. The truck is booked in to the dealer for Thursday. I hooked up my OBD MX+ and tried to find the right PID for the cabin temperature. If I found the correct one I believe maybe I have a bad sensor. Perhaps someone that knows what the right PID to select is could help me out. This is what my truck is displaying though.

419F in cabin temp. Dang, your feet are definitely gonna be sweaty...

But yeah that seems off...

Still would say I don't think mine is "defective".... its just doesn't stay consistent.

Cold mornings I set 62-63. Eventually I get OK warm, but then I have to turn it up to 65-67.

If I just set at 65-67 at startup I get too hot, especially on my feet.

Has anyone had a resolution to this yet? Truck HVAC worked great all summer but now that’s it’s cool outside again it’s cooking my and my passengers on anything but LO.

Same boat here. In summer, The auto works awesome. Love it 1000%. Then comes heat time and it just fails so hard. How can it be so good in the summer and the SAME system just not work?

I find that the front facing vents never turn on in heat mode. Which sucks for me since being tall, that defrost is blowing in my eyes the whole time drying them out. So I end up running the winter in manual mode.

I believe the temp setting is more like temp in a house. Its not the temp of the air coming out its the temp of the room. Even In manual mode its so so hot until the whole cabin is warm, then its turns off the hell heat.

Winter is just so frustrating

The best workaround I have found for the winter months is using the highest fan speed in auto mode with the temp set to 63 and the A/C button on. Definitely not perfect, but at least it's manageable.
