Take-off lug nuts

Got the Gorillas switched over this morning, ditched the Mcgaurd locking lugs(that rusted 1st winter), only 2 OG lugs were salvageable from the stockers.

Quality stuff does not come cheap. You can get cheap made in China garbage ones for quite a bit less. You can get the factory ones for like you said 30 bucks or so but three or four years they’re gonna corrode and swell.

$30 or $40 every 4 years and I don’t have to worry about rust (exterior of the shell) since the cap is stainless.

I may try to let a little fluid film seep down between the interior nut and the shell. May make a mess, I just to keep the threads dry.

Just get a solid stainless steel replacement set off Amazon. My wife's 2017 escape had the same issue with the two piece lug nuts swelling and unable to use them. I ain't gonna be stranded on the side of the road because I couldn't swap lug nuts to get a spare on or off.

Shame on ford for this POS design. Its bull sh t I have to spend money fixing one of the simplest things on a 30k dollar car. But I do plan on replacing my whole set on my f150 with a solid stainless set just like I did to my wife's escape.

Stainless steel nuts are softer. Probably not a good thing and the reason why Ford only uses it for the cap.

On top of rough air tool service, I suspect problems with factory two piece lug nuts separating/swelling also increase when they are subjected to high psi pressure washing. Blasting water and grit under the cap can't be good, especially in freezing weather when it will expand.

I've always liked Discount Tire but was disappointed they're trying to upsell on lug nuts now. Just got new tires a couple weeks ago and they had display lug nuts at the counter, I declined, and then when the tech was working on the truck he also called and said I should replace my lug nuts. It's not like Ford is using Chineseium as OE.

Time for Ford to start supplying quality parts. Seventy-two thousand dollars F150=crap lug nuts. Thirty-four thousand dollar Hyundai Kona comes with solid nicely chromed lug nuts.

No Chinese nuts.
No impact tools on the OEM nuts.
Then you won't have any problems.
