To the point that @Buyer2021 was making, I have experienced some occasions where the faux outer-shell of the lug nut somewhat separated from the lug nut, and it was a b**ch getting them off!!! Everyone has a different value equation of what their time and labor is worth, but based solely on my own experience in trying to remove those SOBs, I see the value in replacing them. Replacing them for $180? Yeah, that's kind of steep, but as I say, everyone can make their evaluation judgement.

I just bought a set of one-piece lug nuts off Amazon 11 days ago. Still brand new in the box.

This week, I decided to trade the F150 in on a 2026 F350.

If you know anybody who makes their way through the Brighton/Howell area, they are yours -- free.

For the record: Most of these cheaper one-piece lug nuts only rust because idiots use impact tools to put them on/take them off. If you use a standard four-way, you won't compromise the finish. Plus, they are one-piece design, so no two-piece swelling to worry about.
Not entirely true. I’ve always been a user of McGard Tuff Nuts but last year I purchased a set of no-name
one piece chrome lugs from a known seller on ebay who claimed good protection against rust. I installed them by hand and they started rusting within 60 days. You get what you pay for.

caveat emptor

FWIW those do not appear to have the larger base diameter / effective taper bearing-area of the OE and McGard lugs.

Yeah, you most likely get what you pay for.

Call me an idiot if you want, but If I can't use my cordless impact to remove lug nuts without damage, they are useless to me.

I install a set of Gorilla one-piece lugs on every Ford I own as soon as I get it. I was able to get a set for my F-150 last winter for $65 from CJ Pony parts. Looks like they are up to $73 now, but still well worth it, IMO.

I am curious if anyone has experience using take-off lug nuts, mine are starting to swell. I looked at aftermarket one piece nuts but reviews are all over the place. Price is also significant. I see people selling sets of take-off lug nuts for around $30. I don’t care if they show a small amount of wear from removal.

If you have gone this route, what has your experience been?
well, you would be better off, in my opinion, on buying new lug nuts. The factory one Swoll over time because there are two piece they have an outer shell. Corrosion builds up between the outer shell and the actual nut itself. It causes the issue.

As they age your 19 mm won’t even fit on them anymore

By a quality brand like McGard, they make solid one piece, chrome, plated, lug nut nuts

That link is for FOUR lug nuts. It would cost me $184.38 for 24 lug nuts.
Quality stuff does not come cheap. You can get cheap made in China garbage ones for quite a bit less. You can get the factory ones for like you said 30 bucks or so but three or four years they’re gonna corrode and swell.

For those of you feeling really fancy, or maybe you want to feel better about spending $180 on lug nuts…

I just got a set of Gorillas, nothing fancy, but one piece. Will make the switch this weekend. I sure hope they don’t rust.

I took the factory lug-nuts off of both our new 2024 F-150 and my wife's new 2024 FORD Ranger FX4 work truck, and sold the OEM's back to my selling dealer for $1.25 each. Probably sold them too cheap, but didn't want them laying around.

I bought McGard lug nuts after watching F150 after F150 two piece lugnuts being removed at the shop I am at wth 10 foot breaker bars and/or a blow torch; it is what it is. I also replaced the battery on my brand new F150 with a much larger aftermarket one soon after buying it after dealing with all the battery aggregations; it is what it is. It is all worth not getting stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

I put these 2 piece black coated ones on the SD and explorer
They were less than 60 a set
If they hold up... great
Best part is no outer cover to swell
Amazon,
At the time gorilla was back orderd for the explorer and none available for the SD. They have both now😅

a tip
a hole saw that is just a skoosh bigger than the nut, that will contact the ring at the bottom, will cut off the ring and the swollen cap will pop off
i saw a dude on u tube doing it and mentioned it to my dealer
he broke out the SPECIAL tool, a hole saw for metal...bing bang done in 30 seconds or so he says
similiar to this kit
remove the centering bit and just use the outer saw part

I prefer the fit and look of the original factory lug nuts and will continue using them. Three years and three tire rotations later mine still look and function like new. I'm the only one who has touched them and I don't use an impact wrench because it is unnecessary and can cause damage. I will of course monitor condition regularly but it seems to me with proper care they will last quite a long time; likely the entire time I own the truck. I will post if ever one fails on me.
