I am curious if anyone has experience using take-off lug nuts, mine are starting to swell. I looked at aftermarket one piece nuts but reviews are all over the place. Price is also significant. I see people selling sets of take-off lug nuts for around $30. I don’t care if they show a small amount of wear from removal.

If you have gone this route, what has your experience been?

Anyone's experience with any take-off part will not be a useful predictor of what you will experience because the condition of the parts is strictly case-specific.

Why prolong the agony with more of the same OE capped lugs anyway? If / when one of those cheesy OE lug caps slips / rounds it's a PITA to deal with.

If you're in it for the long haul just get the McGard 64073 (lower cost than Amazon including free shipping at Summit) and be done with it.

If your time for dealing with hassles has any value at all, the cost is insignificant.

I currently have the Gorilla brand in black and will be replacing those soon with McGard as @Buyer2021 noted. The McGard seem to be high quality. The Gorilla brand are already rusting.

Take-off applies to parts that someone took off their vehicle and likely replaced with something else. Take-off can be anything from almost new to used.

Embarrassing... YES! I have heard that term - and even used it - but hearing it used in reference to lug nuts, totally threw me off!

Someone needs to educate me... What the hell are "take-off" lug nuts? I've never heard that term in my life.
“Take-off” in this context refers to buying lug nuts that were on a new truck that got swapped out for something else. They are technically used.

Good find! What I find interesting - strange really, is that McGard's LOCKING lug nuts are cheaper than their standard lug nuts... 🤔
That link is for FOUR lug nuts. It would cost me $184.38 for 24 lug nuts.

Looking at the McGard lug nuts, they want $29 for four, making a complete replacement cost almost $180, prob more with tax, etc.. They only come with a 1 year warranty. My originals have lasted 4 years. If I can get a complete set for $30, and at 4 years life span, I can buy a lot of sets of the OEM ones.

What part of Michigan do you live in, @Mosey?

FYI / FWIW, the warranty for the McGard lug nuts:

"Lug nuts carry a lifetime warranty against defects in material and workmanship. The chrome plating on the lug nuts is warranted for life not to chip, peel, or rust under normal use and care."

Grand Rapids.
I just bought a set of one-piece lug nuts off Amazon 11 days ago. Still brand new in the box.

This week, I decided to trade the F150 in on a 2026 F350.

If you know anybody who makes their way through the Brighton/Howell area, they are yours -- free.

For the record: Most of these cheaper one-piece lug nuts only rust because idiots use impact tools to put them on/take them off. If you use a standard four-way, you won't compromise the finish. Plus, they are one-piece design, so no two-piece swelling to worry about.
