I think that the Rear Retractable Center Step will be more useful on trucks with the Pro Access Tailgate than on trucks that already have the tailgate step.

If i had to choose between either, it would be the standard tailgate step. But if you went for the pro access the retractable would be a must imo.

My truck was delivered today, and the sticker includes the Retractable Rear Center Step. Guess what is missing in the picture below?!?!

And I was the one with the (9) week QA hold...still haven't seen the vehicle (blend was 02 MAY). Did the dealer comp you a step and installation given you paid for it from the factory?

I'm about to order one from Ford Accesories. $449 X 85% = $382 + 3,820 points. Going to get a bed divider with my 42K purchase points and the mud flaps + soft tri-fold tonneau that I bought last week through Ford Accessories @ 15% off.

The step was listed on the sticker so they ordered the part and will install it at no charge and it is billed back to Ford as factory misbuild.

Right now the 20% coupon is still alive (shop724). Another 12.5% cashback outlined in this post for new members else it's 2.5% if you're a member.

I always put a cap on the bed which both doubles the cargo capacity and protects things in the bed from the weather and from theft. The tailgate step was why I bought the F-150 instead of a Ram pickup and why GM and Toytota were not on the list for consideration.

Sorry to revive an older thread, but have any of you have gotten the step and have it installed? I'd appreciate it if someone who has it could measure the height of the step surface from the ground when it's down. TIA

@bkohn2 Here are two pictures. The height to the step and to the deployable running boards.

Step = 15"

Can anyone verify if it is standard equipment with the platinum (or platinum Plus) and the PAT? I have seen several places that it is standard, but it was still available as an option during the ordering process.

I wondered the same thing, but as you pointed out, it was still an option when I ordered my 703a, so I’m assuming it will not be on my truck when I pick it up. I am still hoping though.

It is an option on any truck.

In the two months it took to get installed on my truck and the "discussions" with Ford, it is a $449 accessory, Link to Ford Parts - SKU: VRL3Z17A958A, not included in any package. Ford's first question was, Is it on the window sticker?"

It must be listed as a separate item on the sticker, shown below on my window sticker.

Even on the Platinum, it is an option that must be selected.

Here's the good news, you can order from Ford's parts site for $445 and I watched the dealer body shop install it in 30 minutes. Just bolts, no drilling.

Hi! This is my first time posting but I am getting ready to order a 2024 F-150 Platinum which I am going to have held to be started with Job 2 so that I can get the pro access tailgate. My question is whether I should get the retractable rear center step. I am 4' 11" and use my tailgate step as a way to get into and out of the truck bed. Considering my height would it be a good idea to get it as it looks like the tailgate step is not available if you get the pro access tailgate. Does it interfere with towing an RV or boat?
I'm 60 and a tailgate step is a godsend. I have the origami tailgate on my 2024 Lariat and have already had a few issues.

The day after I purchased the truck, I was using motorcycle ramps. As soon as I pushed my bike on to the ramp, the motion lifted the tailgate a tiny bit, and the tailgate 'motored closed'. The ramps then dragged on the outside, scratching the paint Ugh. I disabled the tailgate motor immediately.

Yes, opening the 'door' makes for easy access. Unless the load requires the tailgate open, such as when carrying a motorcycle. Then I really struggle to climb in. I need a step.

I am searching for an aftermarket step. I am also considering fabricating one. Even if it is just on one side. Maybe put a grab handle on the 'Boxlink' attach point.

I ordered one of the OEM rear steps from a discount parts online Ford dealer for $350, got an email back saying it was back ordered, and no ETA, so I cancelled the order. Went to Ford Pass / Ford accessories and talked to someone there. Asked if they had it in stock, asked about the back order situation I had heard about from the dealer. Wad told that they get their parts from a different stockpile or source than the dealers. They verified it was in stock, $449, with a 15% off code. Ordered it on Monday, will have it Friday. Paid more, but don't have to wait for who knows how long, and get Ford Pass points for the purchase.
